Students accepted into Biola's graduate Teacher Preparation Program will be required to fulfill fieldwork hours throughout the program. Listed below are the courses that require fieldwork hours. Biola will arrange the placements for the students with partnering school districts. California law requires potential teachers to complete a California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) as one of the steps to earning a teaching credential. This assessment — made up of four individual tasks — is designed to measure how well a candidate meets California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs), which define what teachers should know and be able to do. ACADEMIC ADVISING All credential and MA candidates will be assigned an academic advisor in the School of Education. Academic advising is recommended each semester especially during pre-registration in order to complete the prescribed coursework in a timely manner. Appointments may be scheduled through the School of Education Office by calling (562) 903-4843. BIOLA UNIVERSITY POLICIES Bicycles Bicycles may not be ridden on sidewalks because of possible injuries to pedestrians. Campus Safety Office Biola's Campus Safety Office is concerned for the safety of individual students as well as the community as a whole. Campus Safety's primary responsibility is to protect the people and property of Biola University. This includes the responsibility for all persons at the University (e.g., students, faculty, staff, and visitors) and for all property owned or operated by the University. Officers trained in law enforcement, CPR and first aid are on duty 24 hours a day and are willing to assist students in any way. The Campus Safety Department offers special services such as a campus escort service, a rape prevention program that includes several films and a seminar, a lost and found service, bicycle registration service, and Operation Identification (engraving of personal property for positive identification in case of theft) throughout the year. Vehicle registration, traffic control, building security, and assistance in medical emergencies are additional services handled by this department. Recognizing that a Christian university is not exempt from crime and danger, students are asked to use common sense and caution in every aspect of their activities. Students who are stopped by Campus Safety officers are required to present their driver's license and student I.D. and to follow any directions given by the officer. Failure to cooperate with an officer's request may result in disciplinary action. Crimes. If you observe suspicious activity or a crime in progress on campus, report it by calling the Emergency 5111 line. The caller should give their name, the exact location of the crime and details. Campus Safety officers will be notified immediately. Escorts. Although the University endeavors to provide a safe environment, if at any time you should feel unsafe walking from your classroom to your car at night, please ask a fellow student to escort you or call Campus Security for an escort. Campus Security can be reached by calling 562-903- 6000. Firearms and Fireworks. Residents may not possess or store firearms or fireworks on campus. Community Life As a member of the Biola community, individual students share in the unique benefits of a Christian university. The breadth of course offerings in the graduate and undergraduate levels provide a rich backdrop for study in a particular major.
