ACSI<br />
Acronym for Association of Christian Schools International<br />

ACSI Certificate A teaching credential offered by the Association of Christian Schools<br />
International (ACSI) that integrates formal Bible education and a biblical<br />
philosophy of education with the professional education requirements of the state<br />
teaching credential. <strong>Biola</strong>‘s Teacher Preparation Program meets the requirements<br />
for the ACSI Certificate when students have successfully taken the YMDT490 (by<br />
Spears/Thoennes) through Torrey, the SOE BBST 465 course at the undergraduate<br />
level, or the SEED 501 course at the graduate level.<br />
APLE Loan A loan-assumption program offered by the state of California, which assumes the<br />
past loans of students who enter teacher credentialing programs, as long as they are<br />
willing to make a four year commitment to teach in a low-performing public school.<br />
Applications are available in the School of Education office and at the APLE<br />

BCLAD Acronym for Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development. An<br />
authorization to provide specialized instruction to individuals for whom English is a<br />
second language. Specifically it authorizes instruction for 1) English Language<br />
Development (ELD) in preschool, K-12, and adults (restrictions apply to holders of<br />
Children's Center Permits, Child Development Permits, and Designated Subjects<br />
Teaching Credentials), 2) Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in<br />
English (SDAIE) in the subjects and grade levels authorized by the prerequisite<br />
credential or permit, and 3) instruction for primary language development and<br />
content instruction delivered in the primary language in the subjects and grade<br />
levels authorized by the prerequisite credential or permit. The BCLAD<br />
authorization can be listed on a Single Subject or Multiple Subject Teaching<br />
Credential as an emphasis if a college or university program was completed or, if<br />
the applicant met BCLAD requirements separate from the teacher preparation<br />
program, a BCLAD Certificate may be obtained.<br />
CBEST Acronym for California Basic Education Skills Test, which is required by the State<br />
of California for anyone who wishes to teach. This exam covers reading, writing,<br />
and math, and must be passed prior to submitting an application for student teaching<br />
at <strong>Biola</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Students are required to take this exam during their LEDU 301<br />
course. Information is available in the School of Education office and at the exam<br />
website.<br />

A document issued to an individual whose personal and professional<br />
fitness has been shown to meet the California Commission on Teacher<br />
Credentialing standards as established by law. The document will be issued when<br />
livescan has been classified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the<br />
State Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Commission office has been notified<br />
that the individual has no infractions on his/her record.<br />
