Collie Crown/Round 1 Easter Raceday - Mick Tesser
Our second raceday for 2012 went pretty well overall, good fields for the most part, and with 11 outfits
entered sidecar numbers were the best for a while. The weather was very good, the Saturday night far
warmer than usual for Collie, and campfires well attended until late at night. Alan Warner got up for a
piddle in the middle of the night, tripped over a tent rope and fell heavily onto a large rock sticking up out
of the ground. He probably at the very least cracked a few ribs in doing so, but his partner for the weekend
is a nurse and she quickly loaded him up with painkillers to allow him to get on with the business (I mean
racing you dirty minded buggers). He still looked a tad sore and sorry the next day even with the painkillers
- brave work Alan and it is good to see you back.
Chris Mercer ‘s daughter Kathleen was disgusted with her dad when he dropped her Juniors bike pushing
it back down pit lane - yes, nothing escapes the eagle eyes of yours truly Chris - just lucky I don’t have
a camera! Chris did very well first time out as Alan’s passenger too, as Alan was straight on his old race
pace from almost the word go, so Chris didn’t have much track time to get the swing of it. I also owe
Kathleen an apology as I mistyped a bit about her and Maxine Smith’s day long battle in Juniors in the
Collie raceday report in the last issue, it was Kath’s first raceday, not Maxine’s.
Zane Mattaboni also had his first run on an oufit, swinging for his dad John, and they were also straight
on to John’s usual pace too, so that is great work by the young fella. Zane also deserves a big thank you
as he put his hand up to flaggy (when Sue Ellen went down to a bee sting - allergic to them unfortunately
- hope you have recovered fully) after John had broken the gearbox on his outfit earlier. Good on you
Zane, that’s a real Clubmate’s attitude - there was no racing going to happen unless someone volunteered
so we owe you one. Sue Ellen is also a great assett, she rides her beautiful little Ducati on the Saturday
practices so she can get the hang of the bike and racing, then flaggies Sunday so we can have fun - as
Maureen says “good on ya girl!”
As usual I was so busy trying to sort my new outfit out that I missed everything else so that is about all I
know of the weekend. At least mine is basically sorted now thanks to Ralph Briotti’s loan of a set of CR’s
to see if that was the main problem - it sure was, along with a new set of plugs courtesy of Bob Hull and
the usual help from Bill Hargrave, Bob H, Marno, Webby etc, I owe you guys so much I don’t know how
I’ll ever repay you. I also had great help from a new chum and member, ex-Kiwi solo/sidecar man Glenn
Murray and his son - not only did Glenn hang out further than anyone known to mankind on our outfit, he
is a dab hand with things mechanical too - thanks Glenn, and it will be good to have another outfit out
when you get yours over from Kiwi not to mention the lovely red P3 Velo 500.
The people who make it happen once again did a great job, Adrian Collard, Rob Kean, Carrie Gardner,
Kylie Blackburn and son along with Raymond Shaw in the race timing kept things running as smoothly
as us lot allow them to (although I am surpised at how many times Kylie had to call riders to the dummy
grid for an event and watch as they still were arriving long after they should have, even with all her PA
system shouting and cajoling to get ready for the events in plenty of time - we have to do better than this
people, it just makes it so much harder for the volunteers). I don’t think the medico’s were called on much
which is always a great thing.
Once again Bill Hargrave, Bob Humphreys and Maureen Davey went down a day earlier to do all the
things we don’t see before our racedays, cleaning the pits and setting up all our gear, along with sweeping
and blowing the track clean of all the usual huge amount of debris the car guys leave for us, so that by
the time we get their all is in good, safe condition for us to ride on. Tony Hynes also did a bit of blowing
on the Saturday night along with Bob again to help out - thanks a heap - you don’t have to do it but every
time you front up and put in - it is very much appreciated by those of us who are aware.
The after-race Collie Crown Trophy Presentation was well attended, a few hiccups due to the lack of time
to sort results out didn’t bother anyone, and another succesful Collie Crown weekend was concluded
with another day of the holidays still left to relax and unpack the next day, t’was indeed a happy Easter.
New lap records were set by:
Ken Vincent in Period 2 Junior (-0.5945)
Kelvin Mackean in Period 4 Lightweight (-2.543) continued over

Steve and Dillan McDermott in Modern Sidecars ( -0.335)
Sam Clarke in the GP125’s (-0.4935)
Bob Humphreys in Period 4 Unlimited (-1.1315)
Kevin Webb & Tony Keogh in Period 4 Sidecar (-0.813)
but taking the King of Collie title were Bill Hargrave and Annie Tregger on their Period 3 Sidecar with
3.09sec improvement. Congrats to you both, and to all those who set new laps records too.
Glenn Ducey Update
Much respected and all round good guy Glenn Ducey is making a slow but sure recovery from his recent
illness, and sends his thanks to all who extended their best wishes to him. Things are not quite right yet,
but we all know how big a heart he has and expect that the new nickname the doctors have given him -
“The Anomoly” - may be the new name for his racebike stickers and leathers in the future - best of luck
mate from all of us.
Vic Historic Champs
Craig Mitchell, Nick Miller,Tom Gill, Bill Hargrave and Bob Humphreys (as spannerman) are off to race
at this event, all the best to you, we hope you do well and come back with bikes in one piece and still
running. By the way Tom, did you take fuel! I don’t like to be a dobber (liar I hear you say), but at our first
event at Collie this year Tom went home Saturday night in disgust as both his bikes refused to go, Jay
tells me he was chuffed when he came in Sunday morning to tell her that he had merely forgotten to put
fuel in them both and they were not broken after all!
A Brief Mac Park Report - Mike Smith
Hi Mick,
Just home after spending the weekend at 50th anniversary at Mac Park. Had a great time, overcast with
a few showers over the three days but good turn out of historic/sidecars and junior machines(21 total).
We went for the MRRDA Junior series. Nathan qualified 11th in damp conditions after only completing
one lap, Lachlan 16th and Maxine was 21st. Saturday was a laugh with Kevin Magee joining the team.
Kevin, who was at Mac Park doing demo laps on his 250 LC, and Lachlan are now best of mates helping
him with his riding style. After four hard fought races Nathan managed to finish in the top 5, unfortunately
DNF in the last race. Lachlan ended up in the top 10 and Maxine had a huge battle to finish 19th reducing
her lap times by a good 20 seconds. Ken Lucas turned up with his collection of Norton solos/sidecars
and Brian Donovon was spotted running around the pits. All in all it was a very smoothly run meeting with
55 events over 2 days. I spoke to the club president and maybe historic championships will be hosted
there in the near future, definately one for the calender. P.S, bumped into Kevin Webb on the Nullabor
returning from a speedway meet. (Jeez you get around Kevin! - MT)
Thanks for the report Mike - I believe Nathan’s Morawaki 1996 model was up against modern RMU 80’s
and Metrokit 80’s, so he did very well indeed, as did Maxine and Lachlan, congratulate them for us.
HCMC 2012 Annual General Meeting Notice
NOTICE TO MEMBERS THAT OUR AGM WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 20TH JUNE
Please consider nominating for an official role, committee etc, and come along to vote on the proposed
Constitution changes as noted alsewhere in this newsletter.
Stuff....
Glen Ottley says this is a link to a free online mag, he says it is quite good. www.gpweek.com

Proposed Amendments to the Constitution of the Historic Competition Motorcycle Club of WA.
Two amendments to the HCMC Constitution will be tabled at the next Annual General Meeting which will
be held on 20 June 2012 at the club rooms in Caversham. It is proposed to table the amendments for
discussion and voting prior to the election of the 2012 Office Bearers.
Proposed Amendment ONE - Proposed by Craig Mitchell.
The proposed amendment is to Section 11 of the constitution “ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING” which
states; “The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held not later than the thirty first day of December
in each year when the Annual Report and Balance Sheet shall be presented.”
The proposed amendment: is to delete the word “December” and substitute the word “March”.
Background: Previously at general meetings members agreed to move the AGM from December to a
date in the new year. June was suggested. However the Associations Incorporation Act (1987) requires
Associations to hold their AGM’s within four months after the end of the Associations financial year.
Section 7 of the current HCMC Constitution “PAYMENT OF SUBSCRIPTIONS” states; “The financial
year of the Club shall commence on December 1st in each year and all annual subscriptions shall be
payable in advance on that day.” Therefore to hold the AGM any later than the end of March each year
would be a breach of the Associations Incorporation Act (1987). To move the AGM to April, May or June
will require additional amendments to our Club Constitution. The HCMC is an annual year organisation
based around our racing season not a financial year starting in July each year. By having our AGM before
the end of March each year we will have our club officials in place before the beginning of our racing
season.
Proposed Amendment TWO - Proposed by Bill Hargrave.
The proposed amendment is to Section 11 of the constitution “ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING”.
Proposed Amendment: is to insert at the bottom of Section 11; “Only members who renewed their
annual subscription before 31 December and new members who joined the HCMC before 31
December of the previous year are eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting”.
There are two reasons for this proposal; first to encourage members to pay their membership on time or
at least earlier than they do now and secondly to prevent the possibility of “stacking” the meeting in an
attempt to influence voting at the AGM.
YARLOOP CLASSIC BRITISH/AMERICAN SWAP MEET/SHOW AND SHINE - Sat May 5th
