Is Coming to MN!
What: 2011 UND Celebration Luncheon
When: Thursday, May 26 th at Noon
Where: The Depot (in downtown Minneapolis)
It has been 25 years since the Notre Dame Football Coach last spoke at our
UND Celebration. Coach Brian Kelly heads into his second year at Notre
Dame coming off the most impressive late-season Fighting Irish run in
nearly two decades.
Our event will feature a silent auction and raffle, including items signed by
Coach Kelly and a pair of ND-USC tickets. We are expecting a record
turnout over the lunch hour at an historic location in downtown Minneapolis
(convenient location for those driving into downtown) to welcome Brian
Kelly to Minnesota! Proceeds from this UND Celebration will benefit the
MN Club Scholarships.

HEARTS AND HAMMERS
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Saturday, May 21 st
This May, the Notre Dame Alumni Association will host its 5 th
annual Hesburgh Month of Service. Please join fellow alums,
friends and children on Saturday, May 21 st for Hearts &
Hammers Spring Program Day.
Hearts & Hammers, a local non-profit organization
(www.heartsandhammers.org), helps homeowners facing
financial difficulties who are unable to maintain the exterior
upkeep of their homes. Volunteers will help paint, landscape,
and do other minor exterior repairs. Technical skills are not
necessary.
How to volunteer?
E-mail the club at hh@ndmn.org if you are able to make a
one-day commitment to the ND team on Saturday May 21,
2011. Please note: Children over age 13 are welcome to
participate with a parental waiver.

The Club is excited to have +250 tickets reserved in Target
Field for OUTDOOR baseball on Thursday, July 14 th .
For the cost of $25.00, club members (and current students)

“tailgate” social hour (location TBD). Note: The cost
for non-dues paying members is $30.00/ticket.

Football Ticket Lottery Winner!
Club member, Jonathan Brass (‟06) won the 2 nd Membership
lottery for club members who paid their dues before April 13 th
and signed up for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or updated
their information on myNotreDame. He will receive 2 tickets
to the ND vs. USC game on 10/22/11!
2011 ALUMNI SENATE
At the 2011 Alumni Senate, our club received a Program of
Excellence Award for having an outstanding overall program
across the Six C‟s and a Special Citation for our ND Women
Connect efforts.
Seven members of our club attended Senate in a variety of
capacities. The „senators‟ enjoyed presentations from various
organizations within the Alumni Association and the
University. They also attended workshops offered to improve
the quality of the club.
Highlights of the event included:
A social hosted by the Alumni Association for all
seniors and club representatives. We met many
graduating seniors moving to the Twin Cities this
summer.
A social, hosted by the club, for all MN students. Over
50 students (including our 2 SSLP students) attended.
The dinners and events celebrating Chuck Lennon‟s
tenure with the Alumni Association.

Coming to MN on July 13 th !
The excitement is building! Our 19th Annual Scholarship Challenge Golf Tournament at Troy Burne Golf Club on
Wednesday, July 13 th is shaping up to be our best ever! (Please note the day and location change from the March-April
newsletter information.) Former Irish gridiron standouts Ryan Harris, Brady Quinn, John Carlson, Mark Levoir,
Trevor Laws, John Sullivan, and Pete Bercich are tentatively scheduled to be our special guests. Even if you don‟t golf,
come out for dinner and the evening‟s special events - tickets are limited!
Following the day of golf will be dinner, a program featuring our Page Scholars, silent auction, raffle and a Q&A panel
session with our ND football legends. Non-golfers are encouraged to join our golfers for the after golf.
Please join us for a fun day of golf on a championship caliber course, dinner and the program with Irish legends,
all for a great cause – Scholarships! All proceeds from the Tournament go to our MN Club‟s Page Scholarship Fund.
Troy Burne Golf Club (located in Hudson, WI) is an award-winning public access championship golf course designed
by Tom Lehman, Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. The unique “stadium links” design features bent grass fairways and
greens, 4 lakes, a bubbling burne, wooded areas, and over 120 bunkers that provide an unforgettable golf experience. For

To ensure a good time for golfers of all levels, the Tournament will be played using the scramble format, and there will be
contests and prizes all over the course. Shotgun start is at 1pm. Our special guests will be positioned throughout the
course to hit a shot and take photos with each foursome.
You can enter your own foursome or we‟ll pair you up with other golfers. ND alumni, students, parents, friends and kids
are all welcome!
Entry fees are as follows:
$135 per person for 2010 MN Club Dues Payers
$150 for Non-Club Members
$125 for Golden Domers (ND ‟73 or earlier) and Young Alumni (ND ‟05 and later)
$35 for Dinner-Only Tickets
$20 for Kids Dinner Tickets (12 and under)
Golf entry fees include box lunch, dinner, 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls and numerous prizes.
Hole sponsors (Gold $650, Blue $450) can enter a foursome for a special sponsor rate of $400 (savings of $200).
Tournament Sponsorship ($4,950) includes two foursomes for no additional charge and Pro Sponsorship ($2,450)
includes one foursome for no additional charge.

SUMMER SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM
This year, there will be two SSLP students in the Twin Cities!
Edith Cho (‟14), will be working at Centro, and
Maria Serakos („12) will be working at Jeremiah Program.
If you are interested in being a mentor, fixing a home-cooked
meal and/or sharing a MN experience with them, please

2011 FRESHMAN SEND-OFF
Volunteers Needed
The club‟s Freshman Sendoff is tentatively scheduled for
Sunday, August 7 th. All incoming Notre Dame/St. Mary‟s
freshmen and transfer students are invited along with their
families. The event will be conducted by current students,
parents and alumni answering questions and sharing insights
about life at Notre Dame with a picnic meal to follow.
The Club is looking for volunteers to help with food
preparation as well as current students/alumni/parents to field
questions from our audience. Plus, if any alumni band
members would like to kick off this event with your
instruments to celebrate this occasion, it would be fantastic.

Students Helping Haiti:
On April 19th, a number of ND students abstained from food for 24
hours in solidarity with the Haitian people. They have requested our
help in extending this solidarity beyond the ND community. Please
consider supporting them through prayers and/or a donation. All
donations will be given to Fr. Rick Frechette and the Nuestros
Pequeños Hermanos orphanage in Haiti. Fr. Rick runs the
orphanage, along with St. Damien‟s, a 250-bed hospital that was
damaged by the earthquake. You can donate on-line at

Honduras Service Trip:
Current Notre Dame student, Emma Russ, is participating in a service

HESBURGH LECTURE A GREAT SUCCESS
AT THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARY

Hesburgh Lecture on April 10,
2011. Over 50 people attended a
lecture by Professor Lawrence S.
Cunningham, the John A. O‟Brien
Professor of Theology and the
former chair of the Department of
Theology at the University of
Notre Dame, on Staying Faithful
in a Time of Church Crisis. The
lecture was part of the Basilica‟s Sunday Night Live (SNL)
program. SNL strives to nourish Catholics in their 20s by
inviting them to seek a meaningful connection with a spiritual
community of peers. The lecture followed mass at the Basilica
and was held at Joe‟s Garage where participants indulged in
food, drink and great fellowship.
Professor Cunningham's scholarly interests are in the area of
systematic theology and culture, Christian spirituality, and the
history of Christian spirituality. His most recent book is A
Brief History of Saints (Oxford: Blackwell, 2005). He has
edited or written sixteen other books. He is also co-editor of
the academic monograph series "Studies in Theology and
Spirituality" and serves as an associate editor for a number of
scholarly journals.
Sponsored by the ND Club of MN in cooperation with the
Basilica of Saint Mary, Cunningham‟s lecture was a
presentation of the Alumni Association‟s Hesburgh Alumni
Lecture Series. Offered each year through Notre Dame‟s
network of more than 200 alumni clubs, the Hesburgh
Lectures are delivered by ND faculty members nominated by
their colleagues and the deans of the University‟s colleges and
law school. The series is named for Rev. Theodore Hesburgh,
C.S.C., President Emeritus of Notre Dame.
The club appreciates the cooperation and assistance of Kelli
Kester at the Basilica of St. Mary and the members of the
committee: Paul Reuvers ‟88, Caitlin Piller ‟07, Kristin Koch
‟04, and Troy Androli ‟05. We look forward to partnering
with the Basilica for future events!
FROZEN FOUR
THANKS TO THE CLUB!
“On behalf of the University of Notre Dame and our hockey program, please accept our sincere appreciation for the efforts of the
Notre Dame Club of Minnesota toward the 2011 Frozen Four. The great hockey city of St. Paul, Minnesota did an outstanding job of
hosting this event and the efforts of your ND Club made it a memorable experience for everyone involved. The preparation,
organization, and execution behind the scenes were evident and were greatly appreciated by the fans, families, and student-athletes
involved in such a grand celebration of our game. The rousing welcome at the hotel Tuesday evening was an event that made the
participation of our student-athletes that much more special. Also, the pre-game gathering and pep rally at the restaurant was a nice
way to include the Notre Dame hockey alumni to share in the pride of the hockey program.
I am sure that there are many people who contributed to the overall experience that we were fortunate enough to enjoy. Please extend
our gratitude and thanks to all those that helped make the 2011 Frozen Four a resounding success.”
