At 2010 Alumni Senate!
The Charles F. Lennon, Jr. Award
is a special award that was created to
recognize a Notre Dame Club whose
level of excellent performance in all
areas of club activity over a period of
years is such that the club would
tend to dominate or monopolize the
"Outstanding Club Award" in their
club size group. This award does not
require a recipient every year, and it
is the highest honor a club can
achieve.
At Alumni Senate, the club also received a Program of Excellence Award, a Diversity Award, a Special Citation
for our global partnership with the Ecuador Club, a Young Alumni Honorable Mention and the Website Award
for our Club size.
Thank You Club Members! Your continued support has truly made
the ND Club of MN one of the premier alumni clubs in the country!
Universal Notre Dame Night
Featuring Scott Malpass, Vice President & Chief Investment Officer

Interlachen Country Club, Edina
On Tuesday night, May 25, Interlachen Country Club in Edina will be the venue for
our 2010 Universal Notre Dame Night featuring Scott Malpass, Vice President and
Chief Investment Officer, as our guest speaker.
Mr. Malpass is a very highly regarded investment officer, responsible for overseeing
almost $5.7 billion of University assets, including the endowment, working capital,
pension and life income assets. Notre Dame’s $5 billion endowment is the 13 th
largest in American higher education and the largest of any Catholic university.

He works with sophisticated investment managers throughout the
world and has accomplished top tier investment returns for many years.
Mr. Malpass received both his undergraduate and MBA degrees from
Notre Dame in 1984 and 1986, respectively. He worked on Wall Street
with Irving Trust Company and became the University’s chief
investment officer in 1989 when the University’s endowment stood at
only $425 million. Mr. Malpass is also an assistant professor of
finance in the Mendoza College of Business.
Mr. Malpass will address the current financial status of Notre Dame
and the financial issues it will face in the future. He will also provide
an update of the various events and changes occurring at the University
today.
Interlachen Country Club in Edina will again serve as the venue for our 2010 Universal Notre Dame Night. This beautiful
and historic country club hosted last year’s UND Night, as well as the 2008 LPGA Professional Golf Tournament. It
provides a beautiful and classic setting for the event.
The evening will commence with a private reception at 5:00PM for Event Patrons. A mass will be said in a private room
of Interlachen at 5:45 PM, which is open to all Notre Dame Club members. A cocktail reception for all attendees will
start at 6:15 PM, followed by dinner at 7:00 PM in the Interlachen Ballroom. The program will commence at 7:30 PM
and include Mr. Malpass’s presentation, program events, Club awards and a football ticket raffle.
We welcome all Notre Dame alumni, students, parents and friends to participate in this enjoyable evening. It is an
excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends, become current on University events, and learn more about Notre
Dame financial affairs. Ticket prices have been kept to a minimum, starting at $30 for Students and Young Alums (’04-
‘09) and $40 for Club members. Free valet parking is provided at the front door of Interlachen.

Our 18 th Annual Scholarship Challenge Golf
Tournament at StoneRidge Golf Club on Wed.,
June 30 th is shaping up to be our best ever! Former
Irish gridiron standouts Ryan Harris, Brady
Quinn, John Sullivan, John Carlson, Mark
Levoir, Chinedum Ndukwe, and Trevor Laws are
tentatively scheduled to be our special guests. Pete
Bercich will be the emcee for the evening program.
Even if you don’t golf, come out for dinner and the
evening’s special events - tickets are limited!
Following the day of golf will be dinner, a program
featuring our Page Scholars, silent auction, raffle
and, new this year, a Q&A panel session with our
ND football legends. Non-golfers are encouraged to
join our golfers for the after golf festivities we are
calling Irish Sports Night.

championship-caliber course, dinner and
program with Irish legends, all for a great cause
– Scholarships! All proceeds from the Tournament
go to our MN Club’s Page Scholarship Fund.

TWINS vs. WHITE SOX
at NEW Target Field
Thursday, July 15 th
The Club is excited to announce that we have reserved a
block of 150 tickets in the NEW Target Field for
OUTDOOR baseball on Thursday, July 15 th . Most
games are expected to sell-out in the beautiful new
stadium as the Twins move outdoors for the first time in
25+ years.
For the special price of $19.00, club dues payers (and
current students) will receive a ticket to the game ($20
value) and free appetizers at a pre-game “tailgate” social

ND WOMEN CONNECT
Calling All ND Women! Plans are underway for the ND
Women Connect group, and the organizing committee
has initially identified four primary initiatives.
First, while the “official” Kickoff Event will occur in
September, we will be getting together informally in
early summer at a casual meeting spot.
Second, the Service component of the group will launch
by participating in Hearts and Hammers this month.
Thereafter, we will be organizing a group to visit several
different charitable organizations before deciding on a
regular monthly service engagement.
Third, the Book Club will begin its first quarterly
meeting (date and location TBD) with What Though the
Odds, a book by ND’s own Haley Scott.
Fourth, the Professional Development arm will be both
organizing our own event and seeking to collaborate
with other professional organizations in the Twin Cities
by attending their events as an ND Women Connect
group.

DISCUSSION GROUP
The ND Club hosted its 2 nd discussion group on April
17 th . A small diverse group of Domers discussed
“Catholicism and Politics: What role does our faith
have in guiding our democracy?” It was a fun,
interesting and engaging evening. Thank you to Justin
Doyle (‘06) for hosting and facilitating the discussion.
The club anticipates having at least two more discussion
evenings in 2010. Please watch your newsletters and the
club emails for dates and topics.
In the meantime, you can participate in the Alumni
Association’s new program “Tender, Strong and True.”

SUMMER SERVICE PROJECT 2010
This summer, there will be three Summer Service
Interns in the Twin Cities!
• Elizabeth Klinepeter (’13), will be working at
Clare House of Minneapolis.
• Andrew Seter (‘12), will be working at
Neighborhood House, and
• Kathleen Snyder (‘11), will be working at
Centro in Minneapolis,
Kathleen is from Maple Grove, but Andrew and
Elizabeth are from out-of-state. Thanks to the generosity
of alumni, friends and family, housing arrangements
have been made for the both of them, and each of the
students will have an alumni mentor.

showing one (or more) of the students around town,

2010 FRESHMAN SEND-OFF
Volunteers Needed
The Notre Dame Club of Minnesota Freshman Sendoff
will be Sunday, August 1 st at Our Lady of Grace
Church in Edina, MN. All incoming Notre Dame/St.
Mary’s freshmen and transfer students are invited to this
event along with their families. The event will be
conducted by current students, parents and alumni
answering questions and sharing insights about life at
Notre Dame with a picnic meal to follow.
The Club is looking for volunteers to help with food
preparation as well as current students/alumni/parents to
field questions from our audience. Plus, if any alumni
band members would like to kick off this event with
your instruments to celebrate this occasion, it would be
fantastic.

5 TH ANNUAL GUIDANCE
COUNSELOR BREAKFAST
Another Alumni Schools Success
More than 25 counselors and administrators at area high
schools joined representatives from the Page Foundation
and Notre Dame Club Page Scholarship Committee for
our 5th annual breakfast on March 25 th . Justice Alan
Page was our featured speaker, as leaders from several
area high schools learned more about the Notre Dame
Page Scholarship, as well as the Page Education
Foundation's scholarship program for students attending
Minnesota based colleges and universities. Special
thanks to Patrice and the staff at the Page Foundation for
helping to manage the details for the event.

2010 Golf Tournament - Continued from Page 1
StoneRidge Golf Club (located just east of
Woodbury off Hwy I-94) is the #1 public access golf
course in the Twin Cities. (Golfweek Magazine)
Designed by Bobby Weed, their links style course
features rolling bent grass fairways framed by native
fescue grass. Large undulating greens and rustic
irregular bunkering gives you a sense of playing
"across the pond," but in your own Minnesota
backyard.
To ensure a good time for golfers of all levels, the
Tournament will be played using the scramble format,
and there will be contests and prizes all over the
course. Shotgun start is at 1pm. Our special guests
will be positioned throughout the course to hit a shot
and take photos with each foursome.
You can enter your own foursome or we’ll pair you up
with other golfers. ND alumni, students, parents,
friends and kids are all welcome!
Entry fees are as follows:
$135 per person for 2010 Club Dues Payers
$150 for Non-Club Members
$125 for Golden Domers (ND ’72 or earlier) and
Young Alumni (ND ’04 and later)
$30 for Dinner-Only Tickets
$20 for Kids Dinner Tickets (12 and under)
Golf entry fees include box lunch, dinner, 18 holes of
golf, cart, range balls and numerous prizes.
Hole sponsors (Blue $450, Gold $650) can enter a
foursome for a special sponsor rate of $400 (savings
of $200).
Tournament Sponsorship ($4,950) includes two
foursomes for no additional charge and Pro
Sponsorship ($2,450) includes one foursome for no
additional charge.

All paper entries postmarked by May 31 or
electronic entries received by May 31 will go into a
drawing for 2 tickets to this year’s ND-Purdue

donation to Notre Dame and will make you eligible

2010 ALUMNI SENATE
Alumni Senate 2010 was a great success. The
Minnesota Club was recognized for being an
outstanding and vibrant club, winning multiple
awards, including the highest award the Charles
Lennon Award.
The participants from the MN Club enjoyed the
discussions, class and presentations from various
organizations within the Alumni association. Many
clubs shared their best practices, examples of
successful events from the past year and different
approaches to club management. Specific classes that
were attended included a session on Spirituality events
for clubs, involving alumni ages 55 and older and
effectively using social media to increase
communications within clubs.
All participants enjoyed meeting other alumni of all
ages throughout the world, socializing together
(including time spent at the Baker, of course) and
visiting the campus on a gorgeous spring weekend.
