32 architecturally “Thejourney…toKenmareisoneof astonishingbeauty,rock,woodand spaseastretcharoundthetraveller” These are the words of William Makepeace Thackeray (Irish Sketch Book) as he travelled Ireland in the mid 19th century. The lands attached to the Sheen Falls Estate can still be characterised by the powerful drama of these natural elements and exquisite beauty. The rushing water, tranquil estuary, distant mountain peaks and lush woodlands have largely inspired the form and design of Sheen Fall’s houses. Each development within Sheen Falls Country Club; Mountain View, River View, Forest View and The Courtyard has a distinctive character requiring a unique response. Every house is adapted to maximise the advantages that each site has to speaking offer in terms of orientation, natural beauty, existing mature trees, views and topography. Large planes of glass draw the spectacular natural environment into the envelope of the house enhancing the experience of nature and minimising the divide between inside and out. The forms of the buildings are simple and classic using a palette of traditional natural materials; stone walls, hardwood timber cladding, painted plastered walls, slate roofs and hardwood timber windows. Internally, again traditional natural materials are used with modern clean lines with the emphasis on warmth and comfort. Ideas to Fruition: (Below and opposite) Initial design sketches develop into fully fledged architectural CGI renderings.
