Overcoming obstacles together –
Bainbridge Island
Special Needs Foundation
On any given Thursday, you might hear singing coming
from a little house on Winslow Way, just across from the
Winslow Green.
That’s The Stephens House. Since 2002, the nonprofit
Bainbridge Island Special Needs Foundation has operated
this young adult day program to serve our island
community and enrich its culture.
EXPLORE THE STEPHENS HOUSE
For young adults with developmental disabilities, a day full
of exercise, social interaction, and diverse activity means
increased health, mental well-being, and quality of life. The
Stephens House offers a wide variety of programming in a
safe environment outside clients’ homes, for far less than
the cost of private care.
Two experienced, full-time staff members develop our
programs, which include arts and crafts, games, exercise,
model making, sewing, gardening, music, guided
computer work, and cooking – yes, we make the famous
mini-doughnuts!
In The Stephens House van, we make exciting and
educational excursions to take in the arts, museums,
sports, and the outdoors.

Every Thursday we hold a sing-along, joined by Bainbridge
Island School District’s Adult Living Program students.
We regularly collaborate with other special needs
organizations such as People First and the Special
Olympics.
New clients, visitors, and drop-ins are welcome!
There’s a place for everyone at The Stephens House.
