Mooncy described the Yakima as the most important tribe of the<br />
Shahaptin stock next to the Nez Perce, end reported that they occupied<br />
the country of Natchess and middle Yakima rivers. Xe described the<br />
Atanum-lema as a small trfbe on Atahnsm Creek in Yakiina County. The<br />
Klikatat were reported to have formerly occupied the southern slopes<br />
of Mt, Adams and Mt. Helens in the country of the Klikatat and Lewis<br />
Rivers. Mooney wrote that, about sixty years previous to his study,<br />
the Klikatat had crossed the Columbia and overrun the Willamer country,<br />
even penetrating as far south as the Umpqua, but that they afterward<br />
withdrew again to their proper country. He listed the Qapnish-lema or<br />
Topinish as a snaL1 tribe on the Topinish River in Yakima County,<br />

small tribe living on the north bank of the Columbia. The Skinpa or<br />
Skien was a small tribe which formerly had a village on the north bank<br />
of the Columbia at the falls opposite Celilo. The Tapanash or Eneeshur<br />
