Embracing Our Mission – Shaping Our Future 

Moving ahead with this capital campaign for our 

parish and the needs of the Archdiocese, a large 

portion of the parish recently received a mailing 

sharing greater details on the goals, and asking for a 

prayerful consideration of a significant gift. Please 

do take this cause to prayer, and if you are ready to 

make your pledge (a 5-year pledge is recommended 

as a gift can often be more easily handled over time) 

before you are contacted, please feel free to contact 

me and we will make an arrangement to complete 

the pledge card. Thank you for helping us to 

complete the campaign in a timely way. 

Welcoming Archbishop Lori 

This Wednesday, Archbishop William Lori will be 

installed as the new Archbishop of Baltimore. As 

Archbishop Lori also serves as Supreme Chaplain of 

the Knights of Columbus, I have had a number of 

opportunities to be with him over the past four years. 

Archbishop Lori has always been very personal and 

well prepared for the meetings he has conducted and 

the talks he has given. He strikes me as a prayerful 

and reflective person. He is also a fine preacher, a 

good writer, and well respected on the issues facing 

our Church and nation these days. Let us pray for 

our new Archbishop, and ask the Holy Spirit to 

enlighten him that he may speak and act with true 

wisdom. 

Mother’s Day 

And let us not forget on this Mother’s Day to pray 

for our mothers, living and deceased. And if Mom is 

still alive, be sure to give her special attention this 

day, for who should deserve it more? We also honor 

Mary, our blessed Mother, and a powerful 

intercessor and guide for each of us. As patroness of 

our nation, may Mary help our country remain 

committed to Christian ideals.

You Fiesta” on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Chesaco 

Hall, beginning at 5:00 pm. Spouses are also

From “Parish Planning Update No. 4, April 

2012” 

“Parish Leadership Teams Begin Work” A key task 

in the first phase of parish planning in the 

Archdiocese is the work of the Parish Leadership 

Teams (PLT). Each PLT consists of the 

pastor/pastoral life director and four lay members of 

the parish. 

Recently, each PLT received a copy of its Parish 

Profile, consisting of: a five-year statistical profile, 

building information, and an employee summary. 

The five-year statistical profile, a 16-page document, 

contains information on: the number of parishioners 

and families, including diversity and generational 

cohorts; Mass attendance; parish leaders; 

sacramental data; RCIA program participation; 

volunteer lay ministers in pastoral ministry; 

stewardship of material resources; financial 

performance; youth and young adult ministry 

programs; and volunteer and service programs. 

The PLT has been asked to review this information 

as a means of becoming more informed about their 

own parish data and to identify any inaccuracies or 

missing information. Eventually, these parish 

profiles will be shared across parishes and they will 

be an important resource in helping parishes plan 

their future. After the parish profile review, the 

parish self-study will proceed with the PLTs’ 

completion of a parish inventory.


YOUTH YOUTH NEWS 

NEWS 

On the weekend of April 27 th , teens 

from several parishes and schools in 

the East Baltimore area, including a 

delegation from St. Clement Parish, met to 

participate in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. 

During the Famine, teens fasted for all 30 hours in 

order to raise money and awareness for families in 

impoverished countries who live on around $1 per 

day. 

Teens from our parishes were able to raise over 

$800, enough to feed and shelter a family for a year. 

World Vision also offered the opportunity for our 

group to choose where to send the funds we had 

raised. The teens voted as a group using the CYG 

website (baltimoreyouth.com) where to send the 

funds. By a majority vote of 71%, our area teens 

selected to send our funds to Haiti. 

Perhaps the most surprising part of this event is how 

the teens handled their hunger. During the whole 

weekend lock-in, there was hardly any complaining, 

and everyone got along with each other very well. 

The weekend concluded with the teens attending the 

4:30 pm service at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 

and then breaking their fast with a spaghetti dinner 

immediately after.

The Anointing of the Sick is not a 

simple blessing but a Sacrament in 

which Jesus strengthens those who 

are suffering. The following 

persons may be anointed: 

The faithful whose health is seriously 

impaired by sickness or old age. 

Those who will undergo surgery for a 

serious illness. 

The elderly who are in a weakened condition 

even though no serious illness is present. 

Sick children if they have sufficient use of 

reason to be strengthened by this sacrament. 

Those who have a serious mental illness. 

If a person was anointed before, he or she may be 

anointed again if the person’s condition has become 

more serious. 

The celebration of this Sacrament consists in the 

laying on of hands by the priest, the offering of the 

prayer of faith, and the anointing of the sick with oil. 

The sick person is anointed on the forehead and on 

the hands. If you or someone you know is in need of 

this Sacrament, please plan to attend.

coming year’s schedule for immediate preparation for 

the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and 

Confirmation. Children must be enrolled in the parish 

religious education program or a Catholic school for 

one year prior to as well as the year of reception to 

prepare for and receive the sacraments. Children in 

grades 1 and 8 should enroll in the parish sacrament 

program for the coming year in April. Children must 

be a registered parishioner attending Mass at St. 

Clement. Sacrament preparation is a separate program 

from the parish religious education program and the 

Catholic school.

faithful attendance are prerequisites for the sacraments
