Pensacola Post
April 10, 2013
To: Membership, Pensacola SAME Post
Happy spring! I don’t know about you, but I am glad to finally have some warm
weather. With the coming of spring and the imminent summer, the post is looking for
your ideas on outdoor events that we can participate in. If you have an idea for a
post function that can be educational, mentoring or just a social function, send me a
note and let me know about it. We’ll see if we can make it happen. Speaking of
events, the post recently participated in four very successful events. The first was our
mentoring meeting with our UWF student chapter. We had a great turnout of
students and “more seasoned members” and were able to pair everyone up with a
mentor. If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor or if you would like to have
a mentor, please contact Wes Hamill or Dr. Laura Smith for information.
On April 1 st , students from the UWF chapter participated in a “mock” interview
session with Ann Boone of STOA Architects and Joe Riccio of Irby Engineering. The
students gained valuable experience and help in preparing for real life job interviews.
The students brought their resumes for review and participated in interview
exercises. Thanks Ann and Joe for your mentoring and support of our student
chapter.
On April 5 th , the Pensacola post participated in a Habitat for Humanity home build.
Wes Hamill organized the event that nine post members volunteered for, including
five active duty members from the 325 th Civil Engineering Squadron at Tyndall AFB.
Thanks to everyone who turned out for this worthwhile cause.
On April 6 th , I was honored to help present the awards to the winners of the
Pensacola Invitational Middle School Math Competition. Over 200 middle school
students turned out at 8:00 am on a Saturday to compete in individual and team
mathematics contests. As part of our outreach mission, the Pensacola post provided
financial support for this competition for the third year in a row.
One final note, we recently learned that our post was awarded Distinguished Post
Status for 2012. Congratulations and well done to Captain Harshberger and all the
board and committee members for a job well done! I’m looking forward to seeing
everyone at our upcoming functions and I welcome your suggestions on how to
make your post the best in the nation.
Sincerely,
PHC, Bob Sidoti, USN (Ret)
