• MAGazine, a publication <strong>of</strong> the Metal <strong>Art</strong>s Guild <strong>of</strong> Canada, published images<br />

<strong>of</strong> artwork by Anna Lindsay MacDonald, Sheen Purcell, Tiana Roebuck,<br />

Mike Sharpe, Sarah Washbush <strong>and</strong> Sarah Alford in its Spring/Summer 2004 issue.<br />

• Thirty-five students <strong>and</strong> 15 faculty participated in Nice To Meet You, a joint exhibition<br />

in May with the University <strong>of</strong> Ulsan, Korea.<br />

• The 14th annual Wearable <strong>Art</strong> show drew several hundred people to The Dome<br />

on March 30, raising $2,500 for the AIDS Coalition <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>, with a diverse<br />

array <strong>of</strong> 60 runway-ready fashions designed by 30 students.<br />

• Ceramics students hosted Hungry Bowls for the 10th year, raising about $8,000 for<br />

the homeless <strong>and</strong> others at risk, with local chefs donating gourmet soup to fill<br />

h<strong>and</strong>made bowls at the dinner.<br />

• Students also showed entrepreneurial talent through a variety <strong>of</strong> artwork<br />

sales through the year, by coordinating a booth at a regional trade show at<br />

the World Trade <strong>and</strong> Convention Centre, <strong>and</strong> at the NSCAD Student <strong>Art</strong> Store<br />

through the summer.<br />

• In an annual painting contest, Jenna Mossip’s painting was chosen to<br />

provide imagery for the Molly Appeal, a Dalhousie Medical School fundraiser.<br />

• Christian Sparkes screened his film The Young Couple at the Aspirations<br />

Film Festival in Toronto, an international student event held in September.<br />

• Rachel de Conde, Tiana Roebuck, Bebhinn Jennings <strong>and</strong> Anna Lindsay MacDonald<br />

were accepted as artists in residence at the Harbourfront Centre, Toronto.<br />

• US Consul-General Leonard Hill <strong>and</strong> his wife Cathy Stevulak hosted a reception<br />

for students <strong>and</strong> faculty, celebrating NSCAD artwork on display in their Halifax<br />

residence through the year.<br />

• <strong>Design</strong> projects included a new logo for TIANS (Tourism Industry Association<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>), <strong>and</strong> identity, poster <strong>and</strong> website design for such entities as <strong>AR</strong>ISS<br />

(Amateur Radio on the International Space Station); the Society for the History<br />

<strong>of</strong> Authorship, Printing <strong>and</strong> Publishing 2005 Conference; <strong>and</strong> Dalhousie University’s<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Occupational Therapy <strong>and</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Environmental Sciences.<br />

• Deo Velasco won the Jalapeno Beer label design competition for<br />

Garrison Brewery, Halifax.<br />

• Stephanie Rozene (MFA 04) has accepted an adjunct position to teach Ceramics<br />

<strong>and</strong> Foundation courses at Bowling Green University in Ohio.<br />

• Brooke Allen (MFA 04) has been hired to teach in the <strong>Design</strong> division at the<br />

Savannah <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Design</strong>, Georgia.<br />

• Jenn Smith introduced her Pink Lemonade Project publicly to raise money for breast<br />

cancer research.<br />

• A group <strong>of</strong> NSCAD <strong>and</strong> Dalhousie theatre students revived the burlesque tradition<br />

this year, staging hugely popular shows that have drawn hundreds <strong>of</strong> spectators<br />

<strong>and</strong> raised money for a number <strong>of</strong> social causes such as Eating Disorders<br />

Action Group <strong>and</strong> Stepping Stone.<br />

• NSCAD hosted Peruvian weaver Haydee Huaman as a visiting student.<br />

She attended classes <strong>and</strong> taught spinning <strong>and</strong> back strap weaving.<br />

• Textiles student Frances Dickenson sold a piece to Governor General Adrienne<br />

Clarkson while at NSCAD.<br />

• Kelly Richardson, currently on leave from her MFA studies in Media <strong>Art</strong>s, has<br />

been selected to represent Canada at the next Gwangju Biennale in Korea.<br />

• Media <strong>Art</strong>s student Jeanne Ju recently returned from exchange studies at Cooper<br />

Union in New York. During her semester, she partipated in four group shows<br />

including Unframed First Look, a photography exhibition juried by Cindy Sherman,<br />

Adam Fuss <strong>and</strong> Jack Pierson at the Sean Kelly Gallery in Chelsea.<br />

• The Other Game, written <strong>and</strong> directed by Rob Calnen, was selected for screening at<br />

the 24th Atlantic Film Festival in September 2004.<br />
