Message from the President
It was an interesting year.
In some ways it was business as usual: our extraordinary body of students, faculty
and technical staff engaged in the educational process and made works of art,
craft and design; our Board continued to support the university; and the administration
and support staff made the whole machine run smoothly.
Alongside this, there was the exciting sense that the train had left the station and
was accelerating toward optimum speed. Our Strategic Plan has entered fully into
its realization phase. Program planning is underway; negotiations for the second
campus have reached a high pitch; we have launched a new website; we are
reestablishing our international ties; we have welcomed globally acknowledged
practitioners to the university; and we are working with all levels of government
and private partners as never before.
Perhaps ‘the train leaving the station’ is the wrong image, however, in that it
implies definitive arrival at a destination. Schools of art and design, of course, like
art and design themselves, never definitively arrive anywhere. Rather they endlessly
journey and explore. In this sense, NSCAD University’s journey gets ever
more fascinating and fulfilling.
Paul Greenhalgh, President
