PCI-Based I/O Hardware
The location within the cabinet is not flexible. For example, IP Cell 0 must be in the
location shown. If there is an IP Cell 1, it must be in the location shown.
The I/O Modules must also be in the location shown.
Notice how the I/O Module 0 is below IP Cell 0 and how the pattern reverses as each
IP cell is added.
The figure shows eight IP cells (for a 32x system) with an I/O Module corresponding to
each IP cell. Each cell and I/O Module pair has a unique number (0 through 7). This
number is used in the I/O addressing done by OS 2200.
OS 2200 requires a unique address for every path and device. As part of that
addressing scheme, the path through the I/O complex must be identifiable by a unique
value.
The addressing format for Dorado 300 Series servers is IwxCyz:
w = the I/O Module (0 through 7). (Note the location of each number in
Figure 1–13.)
x = the IOP (0 through 3) within the I/O Module. Each I/O Module can have four
IOPs.
y = the slot within the IOP.
0 Slot 0, within the I/O Module, closest to the controlling IOP.
1 to 7 Slot in the expansion rack, if Slot 0 has a PCI Host Bridge Card.
8 Slot 1, within the I/O Module, farthest from the controlling IOP.
9 to F Slot in the expansion rack, if Slot 1 has a PCI Host Bridge Card.
z = the port on the HBA or NIC.
0 if single port or upper port.
1 if lower port.
The following figure is an example of I/O addresses. Notice how the second-to-last
digit of the expansion rack address depends on which slot connects to the expansion
rack.
