10 UPPER LEGFORM TO BUMPER TESTS<br />

10.1 Description of Upper Legform and its Instrumentation<br />

10.1.1 The upper legform impactor used shall conform to that specified in Regulation (EC)<br />

78/2009 of the <strong>Euro</strong>pean Parliament and of the Council (14th January 2009) and<br />

annexed in R (EC) 631/2009 (22nd July 2009).<br />

10.2 Certification<br />

10.2.1 The certification procedures are detailed in Regulation (EC) 631/2009 (22nd July<br />

2009).<br />

10.2.2 The upper legform shall be certified before the test programme.<br />

10.2.3 The foam sheet 1 from which the pieces of foam shall be taken shall be certified before<br />

the test programme.<br />

10.2.4 The upper legform shall be re-certified after a maximum of 20 impacts.<br />

10.2.5 The upper legform shall be re-certified at least once every 12 months regardless of the<br />

number of impacts it has undergone.<br />

10.2.6 If the upper legform exceeds any of its CACs then it shall be re-certified.<br />

10.3 <strong>Test</strong> procedure - Pre-test<br />

10.3.1 Ensure that the vehicle is fully test prepared as described in Section 1.<br />

10.3.2 Ensure the vehicle is at the normal ride attitude as recorded during marking up of the<br />

vehicle.<br />

10.3.3 Ensure that the upper legform, the vehicle, the propulsion system and the data<br />

acquisition equipment has soaked in a temperature in the range of 16C to 24C for at<br />

least 2 hours prior to testing.<br />

10.3.4 The total mass of the upper legform impactor including those propulsion and guidance<br />

components which are effectively part of the impactor during the impact shall be 9.5kg<br />

0.1kg. The upper legform impactor mass may be adjusted from this value by up to<br />

1kg, provided the required impact velocity is also changed using the formula:<br />
