If you have not already done so, now
is a good time to start the dreaded
record books. If you need help or
have questions about filling out the
record books, please contact Brooke
and schedule an appointment to meet
with her.
Spending an hour each month
working on your record books will
make them much easier to finish after
fair or before exhibit day. The
general and family and consumer
science record books are due with the
project at interview judging. The
livestock, small animal and horse
record books are due on Friday,
September 7. Dog record books are
due August 1.

Exhibit Requirements
Be sure to read the 2012 4-H
requirements! There have been
several changes made to the project
requirements and you can avoid the
surprise and disappointment on
exhibit day if you take the time to
read about your project now.
For example, Cake Decorating Unit 2
is no longer “character” cakes, and
unit 4, which has been “cut-up” cakes
in past years is not available this
year.
The project requirements spell out
what the required exhibit is for
general and family and consumer
science projects, and special 4-H
events held during State Fair. We
follow the same exhibit requirements
for Exhibit Day as the State Fair. The
information is printed in the premium

Shooting Sports Safety
Meeting Dates
There are two remaining Shooting
Sports Safety meetings:
• May 6, 2012 – Crowley County
Community Library – Ordway –
3:00 p.m.
• June 7, 2012 – Otero Extension
Office, Rocky Ford – 6:30 p.m.
Please note you must attend at least
two meetings to be eligible to take
part in the County Shoot, so if you
need to attend, please put this date on
your calendar and make it a priority.
Shooting Sports Practice
Dates
Several dates have been scheduled
for Shooting Sports members to
practice. Certified Shooting Sports
leaders will be available for each
practice. In addition, a parent or legal
guardian must be present with the
youth; failure to do so will result in
the youth not being allowed to
participate at that practice.
For practices at the La Junta Gun
Club, there will be a range fee of
$1.00 per person per day, and for
shotgun, there is a $3.00 per round
fee for clay targets. If you would like
to practice any or all disciplines,
there will be certified leaders at the
La Junta Gun Club on the following
dates:
.22, Air Rifle, Archery, Trap
and Muzzleloading practice

The Fowler Rifle Club has also
scheduled practice dates for 4-Hers.

Rifle Club 4-Hers must meet the
following requirements:
All participants must possess a
NRA membership card and have
a copy on file w/ Fowler Rifle
Club.
All participants must be a
member of the Fowler Rifle
Club.
