Most <strong>freshwater</strong> localities with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> borders <strong>of</strong> ACG are small streams <strong>and</strong> rivers. This is reflected<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> fish communities consist <strong>of</strong> small species, or relatively small <strong>in</strong>dividuals<br />

<strong>of</strong> potentially large species. At all localities, a major proportion <strong>of</strong> fish <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> samples<br />

were smaller than 10 cm <strong>in</strong> length, <strong>and</strong> very few fish were larger than 25 cm. One exception is<br />

<strong>the</strong> lowl<strong>and</strong> locality <strong>in</strong> Rio Tempisquito, where <strong>the</strong> Arius species is a relatively large sized element<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fauna (up to 35 cm body length). This is also <strong>the</strong> only <strong>survey</strong>ed locality where<br />

crocodiles (Crocodilus aculeatus) were present.<br />
