GHS wrestlers improve to 9-0 at Big Rapids<br />
1 BIG RAPIDS — The<br />
Gayiord wrestling team<br />
continued to cruise in dual<br />
matches, improving to 9-<br />
0 on the season with victories<br />
against Big Rapids<br />
and Carson City-Crystal<br />
Saturday.<br />
The Blue Devils, ranked<br />
No. 9 in Division 2, scored<br />
a huge 45-25 win against<br />
the Cardinals, who were recently<br />
ranked as well.<br />
"The kids really stepped<br />
it up against a good team,"<br />
said Gaylord coach Jerry<br />
l.ajoie.<br />
Against Big Rapids, Justin<br />
Gehringer (103), Chadd<br />
Hall (112). Danny Sharrard<br />
(135), DougTyrari (160) and<br />
Brian Bliss (275) all won by<br />
fall.<br />
Winning by decision<br />
was Jake Armstrong (119),<br />
Drew Pichan (125). David<br />
Maves (130) and MikeTaubitz<br />
(J71).<br />
The Blue Devils then<br />
were perfect in a 82-0<br />
thumping against Carson<br />
City-Crystal. Senior Andrew<br />
Olds (145) pinned<br />
the Eagles' best wrestler in<br />
2:05.<br />
Winning by fall was Pichan,<br />
Maves, Sharrard, Dillon<br />
Hunt (140), Olds.Tyran<br />
and Taubitz. Hall won by<br />
decision, while Armstrong,<br />
Jacob Clute (152), Joe<br />
Kucharek (215) and Bliss<br />
all won by void.<br />
Gaylord is at the prestigous<br />
Marquette Challenge<br />
today, where they'll see<br />
some of the better teams in<br />
Michigan and Wisconsin.<br />
VARSITY B —<br />
The Gaylord Varsity B<br />
wrestling team recently<br />
competed in the Harrison<br />
Quad, downing Standish-<br />
Sterling, and tying, but falling<br />
in criteria, to Remus<br />
Chippewa Hills.<br />
Gaylord tied Chippewa<br />
Hills 36-36, but the Warriors<br />
had won more matches, so<br />
they emerged winners. The<br />
Blue Devils then downed<br />
Standish-SterUng 42-27.<br />
Going 2-0 <strong>for</strong> Gaylord<br />
was Dylan Newton, Trevor<br />
Knouse, Colton Roberts,<br />
Tre Borowiak. Collin O'Neill<br />
and Russ Stingley, the Wrestler<br />
of the Meet.<br />
Going 1-1 was Brad<br />
Duski. Alex Webber. Jeff<br />
Guethlein and Caleb<br />
Tomes.<br />
The team then competed<br />
in the Ogemaw<br />
Heights Tournament, with<br />
Newton and Knouse both<br />
dominating the competition<br />
and taking first.<br />
Webber and O'Neill took<br />
second <strong>for</strong> Gaylord, while<br />
Brandon Mikolowski and<br />
Guethlein took third.<br />
JUNIOR VARSITY —<br />
The Gaylord junior<br />
varsity wrestling team<br />
competed at the Ogemaw<br />
Heights Tournament last<br />
Friday, with Jacob Clute going<br />
5-0 to take first place.<br />
Rory Ellafrits also took First<br />
<strong>for</strong> the Blue Devils, while<br />
Shay Ellafrits and Charles<br />
Nortley each took second.<br />
