Church choir to perform Christmas Cantata Sunday
GAYLORD —The First United Methodist
Church (FUMC) Chancel Choir will present a
Christmas Cantata on Sunday.
The cantata is entitled "The Winter Rose"
and is an encore performance of a program
previously presented.
According to choir conductor Gary Waldo,
"The Winter Rose" was performed two years
ago and because audiences found the presentation
to be so enjoyable both musically and
This week at the movies
lyrically, choir members wanted to present it
again.
The cantata is a musical portrayal of the
anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ and
also makes reference to the end of His earthly
life and His resurrection into heaven. In "The
Winter Rose," a unique parallel to Jesus' birth
is portrayed by reference to a rose in a garden
(the Rose of Sharon).
High school sophomore Jason McArt will
narrate throughout the performance with
choir member Shari Waldo providing the musical
accompaniment.
"The Winter Rose" will be presented at the
10:30 service Sunday at FUMC, and will be
repeated that evening at 6 p.m. The community
is cordially invited to come and enjoy the
evening performance at the church, 215 S.
