A Standards Guide
for the Gender Equality and HIV
Resource Persons Registry (Jamaica)
PURPOSE
To establish a registry for Jamaican based resource persons and agencies in the
area of gender equality and HIV & AIDS. This is a deliverable of the National HIV/
STI Programme (NHP) project in partnership with UN WOMEN-EC. The objective
is to build the capacity of the national HIV mechanism to address gender equality
mainstreaming in the national HIV and AIDS response through the NHP, the National
AIDS Committee (NAC) and Civil Society.
The Registry is intended to contribute to the sustainability of the mainstreaming
process, beyond the project life, as it will provide a resource pool for the national
HIV response (government, civil society and other partners) to draw on or partner
with, towards incorporating gender issues within a human rights frame, in the goal
to halt and reverse HIV.
It will be a directory of persons in Jamaica with knowledge and skills to link gender
issues with HIV and address gender equality within a human rights frame, in the
prevention and control of the epidemic. The target was fifty resource persons in
commemoration of Jamaica 50—The Golden Jubilee 1962-2012. This was however
exceeded, as training increased the numbers. It will also include agencies with a
specific focus on gender equality mainstreaming in HIV which can provide expertise
as well as partnership opportunities.
The Registry is intended for use by any agency, individual, programme or project
in the national HIV response requiring the skills, expertise and support described.
It may also be used by persons within the Caribbean region or internationally
requiring expertise and knowledge from or about the region. This is a deliverable
of the gender equality mainstreaming Project of the National HIV/ STI Programme
(NHP) of the Ministry of Health (MoH).
