Dear Members,
February is the shortest month of the year
and so far it has turned out to be the
warmest month of this summer. How
amazing the weather pattern has shown
us that there is something we have no
power over.
Unfortunately I was unable to attend the
General Meeting on 12 th of February. I
hear that a lot of discussion took place
and refer those of you, who could not be
there either, to the minutes of the meeting
on page 8 and the president's report
unedited as requested on page 16.

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING:
Minutes of the last meeting 30 December 2002 had been distributed and were taken as read.

CORRESPONDENCE:
Account from Cor Frederiksen received again.
FINANCE:
Elna distributed Profit & Loss July 2002 to Jan 2003, Balance Sheet at December 2002, and accounts
1.7.02 to 2.2.03. Detail of the Scandinavian Ball was also distributed. This showed $24433 Income and
$28113 Expenses.
Discussion re the Bar Float, etc. Outcome was a $200 float in the Bar. Arild had previously returned the
$500 that had previously been held as a cash imprest system by the person handling the bar purchases.
Arild raised questions re apparent disappearance of some liquors, e.g. Tequila and Rum. Ole proposed
new locks and limited distribution of keys – President and Bar Manager. Also a regular stocktake each
two months, and a Profit and Loss statement. Try to get rid of the more esoteric drinks and then stock just
the basic most requested drinks. All this was seconded by Joan Christensen. Ulla will buy a new barrel
and keys, and whatever is needed for the other cupboards, etc., and someone will install this at Fastelavn.
Agreed.
Ole Andersen moved that the cheques listed on folios 80 and 81 (see attached) be ratified by the
committee. Seconded Elna Jensen. Agreed
Ulla’s Café took $507, Lolly Shop $162 on 31.1.03.
Re Advertising – Ulla noted that Palle Sorensen, and Jorgen de Voss were both cancelling their Ads. She
also noted a number of advertisers who were awaiting their accounts before paying. Elna has noted these
and will send accounts.
Ole reported re Insurance. $4600 quote just for Public Liability from the Government-sponsored
Company. Public Liability $5m. plus Buildings, plus Stock, etc. $3309. Direct Insurance Brokers. No
Burglary insurance, no machinery breakdown, no glass. Discussed by the Committee. Covers Fire,
Storm, Tempest but not Flooding. Ole Andersen moved this be accepted and paid. Arild Nielsen
seconded. Agreed. Decided to finalize this and then check cost if raised Public Liability to $10m.
Ulla distributed emails from the Aussie Music Club re possible use of the Hall. This will probably be 3 x
Fridays and Saturdays, 4 Sunday afternoons. They will hold a Cabaret once a month. They will also
supply free of charge musicians for four of our functions each year. It’s a nonprofit Club. They will have
associate membership similar to that of the Swiss Club. Folk dancers will move to Monday & Tuesday.
Aussie Music Club will start from Friday 14 March 2003. Ulla will negotiate with Aussie Music Club
(Warren Trout) to accommodate any Saturdays/Sundays already committed to the Swiss Club.

Agreement to this deal with Aussie Music Club was moved by Ole Andersen, seconded Ulla Turner,
Agreed. Ulla will report to the Committee before the Aussie Music Club commences here. Re storage,
they will be given the loft for storage.
Discussion re whether unfinancial members should get copy of Newsletter mailed to them, and whether
full copy of Newsletter should be on our Website. A letter or account should be sent to all those who have
not renewed their membership. Website should list enough detail of events to attract customers.
Newsletter should be discontinued for those who are not financial members (except approved members
who get copies free). This was agreed by the Committee. The “letter” could be written inside the cover of
the Newsletter (cover, not the newsletter) – this was considered a good idea. This can be organized
between Ann de Voss, Elna, and Joan if required.
NEW MEMBERS:

LAST FUNCTION:
•Ulla’s Café on 31 January 2003. Ulla said that she is unable to handle the kitchen without paid help.
Jorgen said that there are members – himself, Ann, Arild, and Ann de Voss – willing to handle
kitchen work. If Ulla would delegate Kitchen work there would be volunteers to handle it. Other
Committee members mentioned concerns about acquiescence with Health regulations in the kitchen.
Ole said that there should be conformance with the Health regulations. Ole suggested that two or
three members should oversight our conformance with this. It was agreed Ole Andersen, Ann
Nielsen and Jorgen de Voss would be this oversight team.
•As a general principle, the Committee should decide who is responsible for various tasks at each
function. It was proposed by Arild and seconded Erik Andersen that one help be hired specifically for
the dishwashing for each of our larger functions. This was agreed by the Committee.
FUTURE CLUB FUNCTIONS:
Special General Meeting 12 February – to discuss the future of the Club. 7pm Wednesday, 12 February.
Need to appoint a new auditor. Lis Larsen is getting a quote from someone in Caboolture. Possibility of
Birte Spencer’s son doing it from the following year.
Ulla proposed that Frank Wiis should be made a Honorary member. All Committee agreed with this.
Rental of premises – explaining re the Aussie Music Club.
Discussion re possible plan for moving from these premises. A “business plan” for the future.
Explanation re public liability insurance
Suggestions for future functions? E.g. entertainers from Denmark.
Other business:
Fastelavn 15 February for children. Bar will be handled by Arild and Alan. Kitchen will be handled by Ann
de Voss who will organize her own helpers. Preparation of Hall Jorgen de Voss and Erik Andersen and
cleanup by Erik Andersen and Jorgen de Voss and maybe Harly(?). Food usually hotdogs and boller
(Baker will send these up – only Fastelavnsboller with cream). Ann will handle the shopping for hotdogs
(usually 10kg). Agreed that we will use up what is already in the freezer. Discussion that mustard, tomato
sauce, etc should be in bottles, not on open plates. Re decorations? Black cats, etc. Crowns for King
and Queen etc. Barrel will be donated by Leif. Need a baseball bat. Photos needed – Aage will take
photos.
Then Ulla’s café again 28 February – Bar: Arild. Kitchen: Ulla Dishwashing: Harly & Ann? – One hired
help specifically for the dishwashing. Preparation: Ulla and ? Clean Up of Room: Ann & Jorgen de Voss.
GM on 12 February – to discuss the future of the Club. Ulla will try to find name of an alternative Auditor

(as suggested by Jorgen de Voss). So we will list “Appointment of Auditor” on the Agenda for the GM.
8 March – Smorbrodsaften. Ulla suggests white & curry sild, laks, æbleflæsk, fiskefrikadeller, rullepølse,
mørbrad, hamburgerryg med italiensk salat, leverpostej, etc. $30/$35. Music? Maybe Scott Sinclair, Ulla
will check if he is available.
12 April - Big band – The Good Time Band - we had for the Scandinavian Ball. 4 men can perform for
$770, 8.00pm – midnight. Floor clear for dancing. Buffet at 7pm. Club open at 6pm. Tables around the
outside. Bar by Erik, with Mivi & Alan. $35/$40.
24 May – Danish Wedding – Preben Nielsen MC for evening. Nibbles & white wine. Snaps & sild.
Company coming in to serve the main course. Probably $35/$40.
June? To be decided.
MAINTENANCE OF CLUB PREMISES
Alan – Many thanks from Committee and from all members.
Thermometers in the fridges and freezers, and a hot thermometer available.
Toilet paper – need bigger rolls. Need 5 holders – about $60 each. Alan will have a look at other brands
and see if we can get a cheaper one.
The meeting closed at 9.40pm.

MINUTES OF A SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
Held at 36 Austin Street, Newstead, on Wednesday, 12 February, 2003.
PRESENT:
8 Committee members (Erik Andersen, Ole Andersen, Joan Christensen, Ann & Jorgen de Voss, Ann &
Erik Nielsen, Ulla Turner) and 22 other members.
MEETING OPENED:
The President, Ulla Turner, opened the meeting at 7.10pm, and welcomed members. The Agenda for the
meeting had been published in the Newsletter.
APPOINTMENT OF AUDITOR:
The meeting was reminded that an alternative to our current auditor had been sought, but that quotes
received indicated that this would provide no financial advantage. Mention was made of the $750 account
currently in dispute with our current auditor for work that had not been agreed to. The meeting was
reminded that at the last (continued) Annual General Meeting, the Club had voted that Cor Frederiks be
appointed as Auditor for 2002-03.
AGENDA ITEMS 2. FUTURE OF THE CLUB, 3. RENTAL OF PREMISES, AND 4. LIABILITY
INSURANCE.
As the discussions during the meeting tended to range over all of the listed Agenda
items, the following record provides a summary of the discussion under each heading,
rather than the actual sequence of the discussions that occurred. Another topic raised
frequently during the discussions was “Membership”, so those discussions have been
summarised under that as a separate heading.
LIABILITY INSURANCE:
It was pointed out that the Club had been very lucky to be able to obtain Insurance that included Liability
cover for $3300 which was not much less than we had expected to have to pay.
MEMBERSHIP:
During the discussions a number of comments/suggestions were made about membership. These are
summarised below:
Kurt Christensen queried the Application for Membership as published in the Newsletter. It states
that Ordinary Members must be of Danish descent. He felt that this discouraged those not of Danish
descent from joining. The Committee will look at the wording of the form.
It was stated that current membership was ageing, and that it was difficult to attract younger
members. Ann Power cited the Scots Club with its dancing attracting younger people; also the need
for specifically cultural attractions e.g. craft, dancing, language, customs. On the other hand, visitors
to the Club who didn’t speak Danish could be made to feel like outsiders
Henning suggested that those who come to the Club (e.g. more than three times) should be asked to
become members. Discussion about this raised the difficulty of importuning membership, however,
new people coming to the Club should be made to feel welcome and invited to become members.
Ulla spoke of the difficulty of thinking of functions that would attract members. She mentioned the
proposed Mini Ball – 12 April – with the same Band who had performed at the Scandinavian Ball.

However, it was a risk – if 100 attended all would be well, but members must support functions.
Speaking of supportive members – and hardworking Committee members – Ulla made special
mention of Alan Przybylak. Alan donates both his time (witness the new paint and shining floor) and
material goods (new toilet paper dispensers – no sooner decided upon by the Committee than they
are donated by Alan!!). At this point, Kurt Christensen claimed some vicarious credit. Knowing Alan
through soccer some years ago, and seeing him in the Club one evening, Kurt had invited him to join
the Folk Dance Group. So Alan progressed from being a Folk Dancer, to a Member, to a Committee
Member. THANKS KURT!!! AND TUSIND TAK ALAN!!!
FUTURE OF THE CLUB:
The President explained the listing of this Agenda item, saying that it was important to have a forward plan
for the Club. Lots of changes were occurring – the environs of our Club premises, the struggle to maintain
membership numbers, the difficulty of generating sufficient income to cover the expenses of the Club
premises, etc. She hoped that a number of members might volunteer to form a small group to investigate
various options for the future of the Club.
While there was no move to form a Future Planning Group, there were nevertheless many suggestions
made during the discussion, that such a group, if formed in future, could consider. These are listed below:
Ole Andersen pointed out the difficulty of extending the hours that the BCC license allows for the
Club – it would mean a full town planning application to try for any change.
Tom Larsen floated one option – sell the premises, set up a Trust Fund using some proceeds
towards scholarships, study, etc., which would move the Club’s function more towards its original
‘mutual friendly society’ objects. Then perhaps some Government property could be rented (or
another Club such as Greek Club) for our two functions each month. Discussion about this included
concern that lack of permanent premises could mean demise of the Club – as had happened to other
Clubs cited.
Arild Nielsen floated another option – that proceeds from sale of the premises could be used to buy a
restaurant that could be leased out with proviso that the Club’s two monthly functions be catered for.
Some of the doubts expressed about this option were that ‘restaurants come and go’ and were a
rather risky business – maybe leaving us chasing a lessee.
RENTAL OF PREMISES:
The President gave details of a proposed contract with the Aussie Music Group Inc who had approached
us first on 9 January about rental of the Club premises. The current proposal is for the Group to be
allocated 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays and 4 Sunday afternoons each month for a payment of $11,000pa, plus
an agreement to provide us with music free four times each year. With other rentals to the Church group
and the Swiss Club, this would leave Heimdal with Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays free plus our Friday
for Ulla’s Café and Saturday for our regular social function. There was considerable discussion about this
and the following points were made:
There was discussion about whether this rental was adequate when cleaning, electricity, etc. was
taken into account. It was pointed out that this would be the best rental deal yet struck. Also that it
was hoped that a much higher rental could be asked after the initial year – the $11,000 had been
negotiated as a starting rate, but $25,000 had been mentioned as a realistic annual fee. Also, the
contract could be terminated at one month’s notice. A $2500 bond would be lodged, and the rent
was payable monthly in advance.
The suggestion that the Friday for Ulla’s Café could be ceded to the Dance Group was not popular.
It was felt to be unlikely that another night, e.g. Wednesday, would be as attractive for Ulla’s Café.

Nor was it well received that Ulla’s Café should be stopped – it is a very popular function. Nor was
the suggestion that the Folk Dance Group use the same evening as Ulla’s Café felt to be a solution.
The dancers need space and would feel they were pushing out the Ulla’s Café customers.
The Danish Folk Dance group were disappointed that they had lost the opportunity to use the Club
on Friday nights. Earlier week nights were not suitable for many members, and they would have to
seek alternative premises for a Friday. There was considerable discussion about this. There was
concern that the Club was losing an intrinsic cultural group’s association with the premises. The
feeling of the meeting was quite strongly that one Friday night should be retained for the Folk
Dancers if at all possible. Gert Engelsmann moved that the rental agreement be changed to 2
Fridays each month with a substitution of either a Wednesday or even two Wednesdays for the
other Friday. Tom Larsen amended this slightly proposing that this be attempted, but not at the risk
of losing the rental agreement entirely. While a formal vote was not taken on this, it appeared to
be very much the opinion of the meeting. Ole Andersen who is conducting the negotiations
agreed to try to achieve this outcome.
HONORARY MEMBER:
The President, Ulla Turner, had the very pleasant task of raising the matter of the granting of Honorary
Membership to a very long time member, and a former President, Frank Nissen Wiis. Ole Andersen
formally moved that Honorary Membership be granted to Frank Wiis. This was seconded by Joan
Christensen (who had been Secretary at the time when Frank was President). Carried.

Having just arrived home from a Peace
March through the streets of Brisbane I
feel in the mood for writing this little
piece for the Heimdal Newsletter. May
we have many more peaceful Sunday
afternoons like this one.
Yesterday, Saturday 15 th of February,
about 30 children and their parents and
friends attended the dress up party called
Fastelavnsfest at Heimdal's. As far as I
was able to tell from the eager faces they
thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon with
smashing the barrel and the games and
songs. However at some stage I realised
that most of the children, playing the song
games in front of the stage, were girls!
Where were the boys? I found a group of
them in the playroom, a couple in front of
the computer playing computer games!
Five others were having a battle with
swords and other "weapons". I called out
to them and asked why they were here
fighting while the band was playing and
games were played in the hall?
They looked at me in stunned silence
when I added that unless they participated
in the song-games in the hall they could
not participate in hitting the barrel! One
boy immediately dropped his weapon and
yelled "I want to also hit the barrel" and
off he went to participate in the songgames.
Yes parents, if your sons told you about a
woman telling them to go and play in the
hall, there you have it in black and white!
It was me! I am still certain that boys are
just as musical and talented singers and
dancers as girls so if my little "stunt" got

just one boy to participate I think I did my
bit to support that belief.
Sofie Engelbrecht-Kerr and James
Pedersen won the awards for best
costumes. Sebastian Vejby and Dayn
Sorensen were crowned Cat Kings and
Tracy Lee Jensen was crowned Cat
Queen. Congratulations to you all.
The icecream was well deserved and
enjoyed by the children after a hot barrelsmashing
session in the Queensland sun.
Hopefully they had all slip slop slapped in
preparation for the "work-out".

The afternoon was also enjoyed by
parents, grandparents and other adults.
What a treat the fastelavnsboller (cream
buns) were, just great with a cup of coffee
or tea.
Talking about enjoyment I would like to
say that although Aage and I have
enjoyed being the joint Editors of the
Heimdal Newsletter, we have realised that
due to work and other commitments, we
can no longer continue the job. We are
herewith giving notice and resigning as of
the next Annual General Meeting. Until

that day we will still make the Newsletter
but would like to say to anyone interested
in taking over, that we will give you all
the assistance we can. So please contact
us as soon as possible. The sooner you
start the better we can help you.
Have a look at the Future Functions on

look forward to at Heimdal's. See you

Visitors to Heimdal
Please assist us in reminding non-members visiting Heimdal, that they must
sign the visitor's book at the bar as they walk in. By signing the book they are
members for the duration of that particular function they are attending.
If authorities pay the club a visit at any function, and find that guests have not
signed the book to be members at that function, Heimdal could be fined quite
severely. We do not want that to happen so please give us a hand in making
sure all non-members sign that all important book!

PRESIDENT¹S REPORT
ON GENERAL MEETING
HELD WEDNESDAY 12TH FEBRUARY 2003 7.00PM
IN 36 AUSTIN STREET, NEWSTEAD
Attendance for the General Meeting was very poor. Only 22 Ordinary Members plus 8
Committee Members turned up for the discussion of the future of the Club.
I would have liked to see a wider range of Members taking part in this discussion, especially
young families, who will benefit from the Club¹s existence a lot longer, than my age group.
At the meeting I suggested several possibilities for the Club such as:
1 planning Group for the Future
2. Welcoming Committee for new arrivals to the Club.
3. Venue Co-ordinator for gatherings outside the Club¹s
premises such as picnics, St. Hans etc.
4. A Viking Study Group, which in the past has been successful.
5. Danish Language Study Group for Adults and Children.
6. Youth Group Co-ordinator to arrange functions targeted at
the young people.
7. Craft Group for women and men.
8. Ways of utilising the Club.
Due to the expense of running the Club our fonds are deleting. We need more support from you
as members, after the entire Club is there for you to enjoy.
The Club needs to raise fonds as the attendance to the functions in the Club is declining and the
profit from the functions does not cover the yearly expense of the running of the Club. Your
membership fee only covers the cost of the Newsletter.
A stroke of luck brought us ³The Aussie Music Club² as an interested party for renting the
premises. This would secure, for the first year, a yearly income of $11.000.
An increase in rent for the second year was discussed and agreed to be acceptable.
4 FREE performances a year is included in the deal, which means the Club has free music
entertainment for our 4 big functions. And the members of the Danish Club are welcome to
attend ³The Aussie Music Club¹s² cabaret evenings on the same terms and conditions as their
own members.
A liability insurance plus liquor license will be paid by ³The Aussie Music Club².
CAN WE AFFORD TO LOOSE THIS OPPORTUNITY?
I would appreciate very much if you would express your opinion.
3 big functions are planned until the end of the financial year:
1. ³Smørebrødsaften² (Danish Buffet) 8th March

Alle vil have en sygeforsikring
Nyt personalegode breder sig med lynets hast,
men der er faldgruber og risiko for skuffelse,
når skaden sker. Især hvis den er sket tidligere

Er der noget, der kan få danskerne op af
stolene og i tusindtal bevæge sig i samme
retning, er det ordet "skattefordel".
Det er sundhedsforsikringerne et nyt bevis på.
Foreløbig 250.000 er dækket ind via deres
virksomhed, men det er kun toppen af
isbjerget, mener forsikringsrådgivere.
Potentialet er enormt, men risikoen for at få
en dårlig ordning er stor. Forskere i
befolkningens sygelighed og
sygehusvæsenets kapacitet har længe stillet et
stort spørgsmålstegn ved behovet for at
forsikre sunde og raske mennesker med fast
arbejde, og forsikrings-eksperter kalder da
også den nye mulighed for en "luksusforsikring".
Ikke desto mindre er netop sygeforsikring
røget ind på hitlisten over de mest populære
frynsegoder. Det viser en aktuel undersøgelse
hos forsikringsmæglervirksomheden Mercer.
Også andre beretter om en enorm
efterspørgsel. Mange steder er sygeforsikring
blevet et parameter for en attraktiv
arbejdsplads. Vil man tiltrække gode folk og
fastholde dem, skal tilbuddet være der.
Set fra chefstolen handler det også om, at hvis
en vigtig medarbejder bliver syg eller får en
akut skade, er det en kæmpefordel at få
vedkommende tilbage i stolen efter en uge.
Måneders ventetid hos det offentlige
sygehusvæsen kan undgås. Hvis
virksomheden tegner en forsikringsordning
for alle medarbejdere, kan udgiften til præmie

fratrækkes i regnskabet. For medarbejderen er
"gaven" et skattefrit gode. Så alle er glade.
Direktør Jes Christensen fra det uvildige
forsikringsrådgiverfirma Prospector siger:
»Spørgsmålet om behov for en
sundhedsforsikring afgøres i virksomheden.
Når vi drøfter forsikring med en kunde, er
dækning ved sygdom altid et element.
Mange ledelser vil gerne tilbyde deres ansatte
det, og medarbejderne har fra deres side et
pres for at få ordningen etableret.«
Sidegevinst
Som en sidegevinst for medarbejderne
nævner Jes Christensen, at de typisk får
tilbudt, at deres familie kan dækkes ind
samtidig med en klækkelig rabat. Præmien for
familien vil som regel være til under halv
pris. Men at tegne en firma-ordning er en
kompliceret sag, fordi der er forskel på
tilbuddene. Det gælder pris, sum-størrelse ved
dækning og selve dækningens omfang. Han
anbefaler altid at indhente flere tilbud.
Som regel undlader forsikringsselskaberne at
kræve helbredserklæringer fra samtlige
medarbejdere. I stedet tager man et generelt
forbehold mod at dække en skade, hvis der er
en tidligere skade fra før, forsikringen trådte i
kraft.
»Et forsikringsselskab vil aldrig påtage sig en
risiko med bind for øjnene, og det er naturligt
at udelukke tidligere skader. Man må også
være klar over, at præmien typisk er på 1000-
1500 kr.
Skulle dækningen omfatte tidligere skader,
kan præmien blive mangedoblet,« siger han.
Spørgsmålet om de tidligere skader er
normalt ikke et forhandlingsemne, når
forsikringen tegnes, men andre forhold kan

man godt få ændret på, oplyser Jes
Christensen.
F.eks. har han eksempler på, at det er
lykkedes at få indført en "straks-dækning".
Normalt er der en karenstid på tre-seks
måneder, fra forsikringen tegnes, til den
træder i kraft.
Præmien vil stige
Det skal forebygge, at der etableres en
forsikring, vel vidende at man står med et
aktuelt sygdomstilfælde, der ønskes dækket.
Chefkonsulent Kim Bøtcher Sørensen fra
forsikringsmæglervirksomheden Mercer
mener, at præmien er langt nede nu på grund
af hård konkurrence, og at den formentlig vil
stige på lidt længere sigt.
Det hænger sammen med, at forsikringerne er
"oversolgt" på det ene emne, at man kan blive
hurtigt opereret på et privathospital.
Efter Bøtcher Sørensens erfaring kender de
fleste kun til 15 pct. af forsikringens
dækningsområde.
Når de finder ud af, at også forundersøgelser
og meget andet hører med, vil
forsikringsselskabernes udgifter stige.
Et andet område, hvor det kniber med at læse
om alle detaljer, er vedrørende tidligere
skader og eksisterende sygdomme. Disse
situationer er undtaget for dækning, og det
udgør et problem, siger han.
»Kommer det budskab ikke tydeligt frem til
medarbejderne, er der risiko for frustrationer,
når situationen opstår.
Desto mere glædeligt er det, at vi nu ser
eksempler på indførelse af en særlig
karensperiode vedrørende tidligere skader.
Hvis ikke de har været behandlings- eller
kontrolkrævende i to år, kan der ses bort fra
dem.«
Mercer anbefaler altid virksomheder at
indhente tilbud fra alle selskaber, der tilbyder
sygeforsikring. Der er aldrig tale om
standardløsninger, for virksomheders
medarbejdersammensætning er forskellig
vedrørende faggrupper og alder.
Er der f.eks. mange SID'er eller andre
faggrupper med større risiko for nedslidning
og skader, eller er der mange ældre
medarbejdere, vil præmien være forhøjet. Ved
indhentning af tilbud vil man imidlertid
opleve betydelige prisudsving for den samme
virksomhed, siger Kim Bøtcher Sørensen.
Selv om en ledelse omhyggeligt udvælger det
bedste tilbud på sygeforsikring, skal den
fortsat være vågen, når kontrakten skal
fornyes.
For produktet er nyt og under konstant
ændring på grund af konkurrence og erfaring
med det.

Fogh søger bred enighed om
Irak
Regeringen afviser foreløbig at bruge sit
flertal sammen med Dansk Folkeparti til at
støtte en amerikansk-britisk enegang i Irakkonflikten.
- I en sag af så stor betydning for nationen
lægger jeg meget vægt på, at vi opretholder
den brede enighed i dansk udenrigspolitik,
sagde statsminister Anders Fogh Rasmussen
(V) i formiddag efter et møde i Folketingets
Udenrigspolitiske Nævn.
Her orienterede statsministeren Folketingets
partier om, at Danmark vil afsætte 50
millioner kroner til humanitær bistand i
forbindelse med en eventuel krig mod Irak,
samt at den danske kystubåd "Sælen"
aktiveres med ordre til snarest at afsejle mod

Telefon takster.
En ting, de fleste af os bruger, er at kommunikere til Danmark på den ene eller anden måde.
De fleste i dag ringer på telefonen eller sender en email. Jeg har kikket lidt på, hvad det koster at
telfonere fra Australien til Danmark og omvendt. Flere gange er diskussionen, hvad er billigst at ringe fra
Australien eller fra Danmark?
Telstra og Optus, som er de største telefon selskaber her i Australien, er oftest de dyreste, men de har også
mange forskellige tilbud, der ofte er betinget af, at man har tegnet sig for andre service ydelser, så som
internet forbindelse eller kabel tv tilslutning. I det følgende ser jeg bort fra disse blandede tilbud, da de gør
en sammenligning vanskelig.
I 1989 tog Telstra for et minut i dagtiden $1.70. og nattetaksten var $1.19.
I dag (2003-02-19) har jeg fundet følgend takster per minut i dags timerne:

nummer koden på kortet. Får at vide hvor mange penge, man har tilbage på kortet, og så taster man
nummeret, man vil ringe. Man hører, hvor lang tid, der er tilbage på kortet og bliver så stillet igennem til
det nummer man vil ringe. Prøv først med et A$10 kort for at se, om det er noget for dig.

IML offers over 30 part-time language courses using a communicative approach to teaching and

Storgaard til Carlsberg Malaysian
Open

I sidste øjeblik er Knud Storgaard blevet
ringet op af Europatouren om, at han alligevel
er med i Carlsberg Malaysian Open efter at
der har været en del afbud.
Allerede søndag aften går turen til København
for at være klar til at tage flyveren til
Malaysia tidligt mandag morgen. Knud vil
først være fremme i Kuala Lumpur sent
tirsdag aften og får ikke mange muligheder
for at prøvespille banen.
Til gengæld kommer Knud lige hjem fra et
træningsophold i Portugal, hvor han var
hjælpetræner for en gruppe danske
golfturister på en rejse arrangeret af Ole Steen
Jensen fra Hjarbæk Fjord Golf Center.
- Det var en fin tur og jeg havde fem gode
runder dernede, så formen er i top. Nu håber
jeg at jeg i Malaysia kan følge op på de gode
takter, slutter Knud i telefonen inden turen går
østover.
Carlsberg Malaysian Open starter torsdag og
ud over vennerne Mads Vibe-Hastrup og
Søren Kjeldsen, får Knud også modstand af
blandt andre Retief Goosen og Padraig
Sport i Danmark
Harrington.
Man kan vel godt sige at det var lige til øllet
at han kom med!
Cykelsport:
Møller holdkaptajn i Paris-Nice
Den danske cykelrytter Claus Michael Møller
(Maia) lægger nye alen til sin cykelkarriere i
denne sæson. I næste måned er den 34-årige
dansker den absolutte trumf og holdkaptajn,
når hans portugisiske arbejdsgiver for første
gang nogensinde prøver lykken i etapeløbet
Paris-Nice fra den 9. til den 14. marts.
- Jeg har aldrig kørt Paris-Nice før. Det skulle
være et løb, som ligger ret godt til mig med et
par hårde bjergetaper og en enkeltstart
undervejs. Jeg har trænet meget hårdt op til
min sæsonstart i Algarve på onsdag, og Paris-
Nice bliver absolut et stort mål, siger Claus
Michael Møller til Ritzau.
I Frankrig er Paris-Nice det største cykelløb
efter Tour de France, og organisationen bag er
den samme. Det er således et kraftigt vink
med en vognstang om, at Maia-holdet håber
at blive inviteret til Tour de France, hvor et
portugisisk hold ikke har været med siden
1984.

I DEN DANSKE KIRKE I BRISBANE
Nu er hele komiteen fra den danske kirke i Brisbane vendt tilbage fra en
meget kold men dejlig ferie i Danmark, og det er tiden at tage hul på et
nyt år i kirkens aktiviteter, i dejlige ‘Sunny Queensland’.
DEN 9. FEBRUAR BLEV DER AFHOLDT BARBEQUE FOR HÅNDARBEJDSGRUPPEN,
KØKKEN- PERSONALET VED BASAREN OG KOMITEEN.
Vi tog hul paa året ved at afholde en BBQ for alle vores dygtige damer fra
håndarbejdsgruppen, køkken hjælpen, kirkekomiteen, samt familie. Vi
havde en vidunderlig dag hos Yrsa og Aage Christoffersen, som åbnede
deres dejlige hjem for os i dagens anledning. Aage stegte nogle
vidunderlige bøffer paa sin ‘nye’ BBQ., og med Yrsas øvede hånd, så
smagte maden selvfolgelig dejligt. Tusind tak til familien
Christoffersen.
Vi nød alle at se hinanden igen efter de travle julemåneder – Det føltes næsten som en ‘familie
komsammen’, og alle i håndarbejdsgruppen er nu ivrige efter at komme igang med masser af
nye ideer, som er fundet frem over jule perioden.

Lune Jyder
Det var under krigen, hvor det kneb med
tobakken. Peter Jokum var undervejs med toget,
hvor han delte kupé med landbetjenten, der sad
og røg på sin pibe. Det lugtede godt, så Peter
Jokum tog sin egen pibe frem og sad og slog
lidt med den på håndfladen for at påkalde
opmærksomheden, og det lykkedes ham da
også at få et stop.
Da han havde fået ild, spurgte han betjenten, hvor
han dog havde fået den dejlige tobak fra, og
betjenten, der ikke var uden lune, sagde, at den
havde han avlet på et stykke eng, han ejede.
Peter Jokurn røg lidt videre i tavshed. Så kom det:
