Cornerstone Award 2011<br />
The Cornerstone Award, established in 2007, recognizes<br />
individuals or corporations that have made<br />
a substantial contribution of time and resources to<br />
advance the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s mission to support excellence<br />
in education in P-H-M Schools.<br />
Robert “Bob” Kania recently completed two consecutive<br />
three-year terms on the <strong>PHM</strong>EF Board,<br />
including board president in 2006-07. Bob’s leadership<br />
of <strong>PHM</strong>EF is reflected by his roles on the executive<br />
committee as well as the grants, nominating<br />
Teacher-of-the-Year 2012<br />
The P-H-M <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> congratulates<br />
Lavon Dean-Null as the 2012 P-H-M Teacher of<br />
the Year. Lavon began her teaching career at Discovery<br />
Middle School in 2003 and has been teaching<br />
seventh-grade social studies since 2006.<br />
She has taught English in Korea and traveled to<br />
China with Discovery Middle School students and<br />

and Silver Mile committees. Even before Bob’s involvement<br />
with <strong>PHM</strong>EF, he was an active supporter<br />
of P-H-M students. From 1982 to 1992, he was<br />
president of the Music Boosters and instrumental in<br />
establishing the Choir Boosters. Bob’s involvement<br />
in the community is extensive, including being a<br />
member of Queen of Peace Church and serving as<br />
president of the parish council for ten years. He is a<br />
member of the St. Joseph Valley Officials Association<br />
and was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall<br />
of Fame in 2002. Bob is currently serving as the<br />
auxiliary timer for the University of Notre Dame<br />
Athletic Department.<br />

In addition to social studies, Lavon has taught<br />
language arts, wellness, music and art at Discovery.<br />
She has a B.A. in elementary education from<br />
Bethel College and middle school endorsements in<br />
language arts and social studies.<br />
Lavon truly represents excellence in education.<br />
The P-H-M <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> honored Lavon<br />
with a $1,000 grant to use for her classroom, an<br />
engraved clock and an engraved brick that will be<br />
placed at Door D at Penn High School.
