Community Partnerships Partnerships in the community allow the P-H-M Education Foundation to further support students and staff. Most notably in 2011-2012 were the partnerships with Barnes & Noble Bookstores and Penn Wrestling Club. The Penn Wrestling Club Challenge brought together nearly 100 wrestlers in a 100-, one-minute wrestling challenge at Penn High School in January. The Penn Wrestling Club is a nonprofit organization and is led by Penn High School wrestling coach Brad Harper. Funds raised from the challenge were split between the Penn Wrestling Club and P-H-M Education Foundation. A holiday book drive at Barnes & Noble Bookstore at the University Park Mall generated 1,836 books for five P-H-M elementary schools that have the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students. The books, valued at a total of $10,246, were distributed to Elm Road Elementary, Elsie Rogers Elementary, Meadow’s Edge Elementary, Moran Elementary and Walt Disney Elementary schools. Scholarships Administered Christy Chang Sheena Shah Corey Nathan McIlroy Laidig Academic Scholarship Fund Since the 2000-2001 school year, an anonymous donor has generously provided 20 outstanding academic competition students with a $500 academic scholarship. The 2011-12 scholarship recipients were Christy Chang and Sheena Shah, who will both be attending Indiana University. 11 P-H-M Education Foundation www.phmef.org Matt Minix Christopher A. Sobecki Tyler Leamon Erin Yeoman Bill Warner Patrick Adkins John and Bert Anderson Scholarship Fund Bertha (Bert) Anderson, retired teacher of 25 years from the Penn Business Department, her husband John, and grown children David, Kathy and Eric established the Above-Average Student Scholarship in 2005. Penn students with a 3.0 to 3.25 grade point average at the end of the 7th semester are eligible to enter a drawing for the $1,000 scholarship renewable for a total of 4 years. This year, Corey McIlroy, who will be attending Ivy Tech, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
