This BestService Product may be used as a standalone application and as a plug-in within a host
sequencer.
Standalone operation is ideal for situations in which this BestService Product is the only audio software
you need to run on the computer, for example live or if you just want to play.
To use the BestService Player as a standalone application, go to the Program Files or Applications folder
and launch Kontakt Player 2. When you do this, KP2 communicates directly with your computer‘s audio
and MIDI hardware interfaces, therefore you have to go to the SETUP Menu and choose your audio and
midi hardware.
Used as a plug-in, KONTAKT PLAYER 2 works as a ‘module’ that can be used within a host sequencer.
KP2 is available for use in VST, DXi and RTAS formats on the PC and in VST, AudioUnit (AU) and
RTAS formats on the Macintosh. It depends on your sequencer, how you load the K2 Player. (Take a
look at the ‘Kontakt Player 2 Manual’ in the document folder)
When the BestService Player is used as a plug-in in any of these formats, it‘s not necessary to set up
Audio/MIDI settings. KP2 operates within the host sequencer, automatically receiving the MIDI that the
host sequencer sends to it and sending back its audio output to the host sequencer. Because of this,
settings regarding audio and MIDI interfaces as well as buffer sizes (latency), are governed by the host
sequencer, not by KP2.
Recommended hardware and software
For good results you will need a computer with 1 GB RAM (or better more). The speed of the CPU and
the hard disk guarantee the sound quality and the amount of voices. You improve the performance, if you
use physical independent hard disks for program running and the Xsample Chamber Ensemble.
For playing the Xsample Chamber Ensemble on keyboard we recommend an 88 keys MIDI keyboard
with Pitch Bend, Mod Wheel, sustain pedal and After Touch. For some sound controlling and switching
legato mod you will need CC02 and CC68. You can use for these functions programmable controller or a
MIDI controller box.
Xsample Chamber Ensemble contains elaborated adaptations for the notation programs finale* and
Sibelius*. For using these features you will need one of these programs.
Set up XCE for notation programs
Before using Xsample Chamber Ensemble in your notation software, Kontakt has to be recognized in
finale* or Sibelius*. If the set up is not done yet, please copy from the program path of your Kontakt
application the corresponding VST Plugin file (“dll”) into the correct VST folder of your notation
software.
Sibelius*
Sibelius* can only load the Xsample sound sets (“xml-files”), if they are in the sounds folder. For more
information have a look at: www.sibelius.com/helpcenter/recources/soundsets.html. First of all select the
menu play/playback devices. When the window ppl llaayy bbaacckk ddeevvi iiccees s is open, activate your Kontakt device,
click on the device and choose in the drop down list your Xsample sound set. You will find more
detailed information on the Sibelius* guidance chapter playback.
finale*
In order to work with XCE in finale* you have to import the right “.mus“. This is the way in finale
2008*: Click on the playback settings window at HHPP PPrreef feerreennccees s . On the window Human Playback
Preferences click at Immppoorrt I t , choose the File Xsample_HP_Finale_2k8.MUS and then click SSaavvee aanndd
CCl lloos see . For detailed information have a look on the finale* guidance. There are also PDF documents with
installation help at the folder \Xsample Chamber Ensemble\Documentation on the DVD.
