both of which have been synonyms of Tachyporus<br />

formosus since 1858 and were not cited<br />

as valid after 1899 (article 23.9.1.1). In<br />

the last 50 years at least 29 articles by 24<br />

authors have been published listing Tachyporus<br />

formosus A. Matthews as valid (article<br />

23.9.1.2). A list of these citations is provided<br />

in the forthcoming catalog for the family<br />

(Herman, in press). Tachyporus formosus A.<br />

Matthews is a nomen protectum and T. flavescens<br />

Stephens and T. subtestaceus Stephens<br />

are nomina oblita (article 23.9.2).<br />

Tachyporus solutus Erichson, 1839a: 236<br />

has an older synonym, Tachyporus marginellus<br />

Stephens, 1832: 182, which has been<br />

a synonym of Tachyporus solutus since 1858<br />

and was not cited as valid after 1899 (article<br />

23.9.1.1). In the last 50 years at least 40 articles<br />

by 31 authors have been published listing<br />

Tachyporus solutus Erichson as valid (article<br />

23.9.1.2). A list of these citations is provided<br />

in the forthcoming catalog for the family<br />

(Herman, in press). Tachyporus solutus<br />

Erichson is a nomen protectum and T. marginellus<br />

Stephens a nomen oblitum (article<br />

23.9.2).<br />

EUAES<strong>THE</strong>T<strong>IN</strong>AE<br />

HOMONYMS<br />

Euaesthetus duplex, new name, is proposed<br />

for Euaesthetus brevipennis Casey,<br />

1884a: 20, which is a junior primary homonym<br />

of Euaesthetus brevipennis Mulsant<br />

and Rey, 1878a: 308. Mulsant and Rey’s<br />

name is a junior synonym of Euaesthetus bipunctatus<br />

(Ljungh, 1804). The replacement<br />

name is based on the Latin for double (duplex).<br />

LEPTOTYPHL<strong>IN</strong>AE<br />

Leptotyphlus sardiniensis, new name, is<br />

proposed for Leptotyphlus doderoi Coiffait,<br />

1957: 77, which is a junior primary homonym<br />

of Paratyphlus doderoi (Normand,<br />

1910: 88) (ex Leptotyphlus). The replacement<br />

name is based on the type locality of<br />

L. doderoi Coiffait.<br />

MICROPEPL<strong>IN</strong>AE<br />

Micropeplus editus, new name, is proposed<br />

for Micropeplus denticollis Coiffait,<br />

1982: 126, which is a junior primary homonym<br />

of Arrhenopeplus denticollis (Coiffait,<br />

1958: 413) (ex Micropeplus). The new name<br />

is based on the Latin for high or lofty (editus),<br />

referring to the high elevation from<br />

which the species was described in Nepal.<br />

OMALI<strong>IN</strong>AE<br />

Eusphalerum afghanicum, new name, is<br />

proposed for Eusphalerum nuristanicum<br />

Coiffait, 1982b: 77, which is a junior secondary<br />

homonym of Eusphalerum nuristanicum<br />

(Scheerpeltz, 1961: 35) (ex Anthobium);<br />

the latter species is transferred herein<br />

to Eusphalerum (see New Combinations).<br />

The replacement name is based on Afghanistan,<br />

the country of origin of the species.<br />

Eusphalerum alpinum (Heer, 1839: 180)<br />

(ex Omalium) is a junior primary homonym<br />

of Pycnoglypta alpina (Zetterstedt, 1838: 53)<br />

(ex Omalium). Pycnoglypta alpina (Zetterstedt)<br />

has been a junior synonym of Pycnoglypta<br />

lurida (Gyllenhal, 1813) since 1857<br />

and was not cited as valid after 1899 (article<br />

23.9.1.1). In the last 50 years at least 29 articles<br />

by 25 authors have been published listing<br />

Eusphalerum alpinum (Heer) as valid<br />

(article 23.9.1.2); 24 of these articles are listed<br />

in a forthcoming catalog (Herman, in<br />

press), and the other five are cited herein<br />

(Franz, 1970: 273; Hugentobler, 1966: 55;<br />

Peez and Kahlen, 1977: 124; Schiller, 1989:<br />

1034; Wörndle, 1950: 122). Eusphalerum alpinum<br />

(Heer) is a nomen protectum and<br />

Pycnoglypta alpina (Zetterstedt) a nomen<br />

oblitum (article 23.9.2).<br />

Eusphalerum longipenne (Erichson, 1839:<br />

640) (ex Anthobium) is a junior primary<br />

homonym of Anthobium longipenne Stephens,<br />

1834: 342. Anthobium longipenne<br />

Stephens has been a junior synonym of Anthobium<br />

atrocephalum (Gyllenhal, 1827)<br />

since 1854 and was not cited as valid after<br />

1899 (article 23.9.1.1). In the last 50 years<br />

at least 25 articles by 22 authors have been<br />

published listing Eusphalerum longipenne<br />

(Erichson) as valid (article 23.9.1.2). A list<br />

of these citations is provided in the forthcoming<br />

catalog for the family (Herman, in press).
