18 how to apply flinderslink Guaranteed Entry Flinderslink (current Flinders students) Completed 1 year or more of full-time study Required GPA achieved Flinderslink is a guaranteed pathway program to the majority of our courses. If you are studying at Flinders and wish to change your course we will guarantee entry to another Flinders course, provided you: • complete a year or more of equivalent full-time study; • achieve the required minimum grade point average (GPA); and • satisfy any course prerequisites. This guaranteed entry program refl ects that some applicants do not initially gain entry to their course of fi rst choice or may want to change their career pathway. For example, if you don’t initially get a place in Law, you are guaranteed a place in Law if you complete a year of full-time study or equivalent in another Flinders course such as the Bachelor of Arts and obtain a GPA of 5.5 or more. The guaranteed pathway program does not guarantee completion of the new course in minimum time, but you can tailor a program of study that maximises the benefi t of your earlier studies. You also retain your place in your initial course. For more information refer to www.fl inders.edu.au/fl inderslink Course prerequisites met Guaranteed entry to another Flinders course I’m glad I attended TAFE before starting my university degree. TAFE helped me clarify my goals and fi nd the right university course for me. It also made it easier for me to be accepted into the course I chose. To gain entry into the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) I had to provide a portfolio of my writing. I used a selection of work I produced at TAFE and, once I was accepted, I was able to apply for credit transfer for one of my topics. This helped reduce my study time and fees. There are so many opportunities for further study available to people with a TAFE qualifi cation. Studying at TAFE also helped me settle into university life. Now that I have fi nished my degree I have won a scholarship to complete a PhD in Creative Arts. Over the next four years I plan to write my thesis and travel overseas to gain more valuable experience. how to apply other entry pathways Special Tertiary Admissions Test* OR Foundation Course / Bridging Program** OR Indigenous Access Scheme * Some courses consider personal competencies and/or employment experience ** Course Prerequisites met Eligible to apply Flinders Foundation Course or another university’s equivalent bridging program Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) Potential applicants under the Adult Entry scheme are required to sit the STAT. To be eligible to apply for the STAT you must: • be aged 18 or over before 1 February 2010; and • not hold a higher education award at diploma or higher level, nor a TAFE degree. If you have studied at higher education level, and in all attempts you have accumulated more than the equivalent of two full-time years of study, you must wait until two years have elapsed since you were last enrolled in a higher education course. For 2010 entry, this means your last year of enrolment must have been 2007 or earlier. Applications to sit the STAT should be made through SATAC. The STAT is available for most courses. Some courses consider personal competencies and/or employment experience. The SATAC University Guide or SATAC website provides details on the provision of a personal competencies statement and relevant employment experience. More information on STAT can be found at www.fl inders.edu.au/special-entry Foundation Course Flinders University Foundation Course allows people to experience university study in a non-threatening environment. It teaches them in clear and concrete terms how to be successful students and introduces them to some of our major fi elds of university study. The course is held in the early evenings and is available online. There are no prerequisites for entry and on successful completion students are able to apply for admission to degree courses. Indigenous Access Scheme The Flinders University Indigenous Access Scheme provides an alternative entry pathway for Indigenous Australians. The scheme is available to Indigenous people who have completed Year 12 or are over the age of 18 and may not have studied for some time. For entry into the scheme, applicants are required to complete an application detailing why they wish to enrol in a particular course at Flinders, their career expectations, educational background, relevant work and prior learning experiences and community involvement.
