The rise in international competition for small arms weapons and ammunition sales<br />
beginning in the early 1990s has resulted in many companies and countries producing<br />
weapons of varying calibers and ammunition in order to make their products more<br />
marketable. Some M1908 7.62 x 54R-mm ammunition may be marked in accordance<br />
with the International Standard if it was produced and marketed for international sales.<br />
The International Standard Color Code (see figure 8-3) was based on the contemporary<br />
U.S. color code system.<br />
