SEPTEMBER BOXSTER REGISTER NEWS My report this month will be to give my experience at the “Porsches2Oxford” event at Oxford, Ohio. First of all the good news, there were 80 Boxsters registered for the event. That was a 35% increase over the Boxster attendance for 2008 at P2O. Those are numbers to be proud of. The bad news however had to do with the weather. Friday before the event was beautiful, as was Sunday. Saturday (the day of the event) it rained, and rained, and rained. That was a shame, because the organizers had put so much effort into it. But, the enthusiasm by all was still there, and out of the registered and expected 500 cars, 409 showed up in spite of the weather. Not bad for a less than desirable day for a casual Porsche party. There were many beautiful Porsches, from older to new, and many very nice Porsche owners to talk with and share ideas. The biggest and greatest thing that happened at P2O was this; the P2O Chairman, Brice Kadel, presented to the American Cancer Society a check for $10,000.00. That large amount came from the event proceeds. That’s a lot of money for a very worthwhile charity, and I’m proud of P2O for what they do to support this organization. Something else that also happened there at P2O is worth reporting. A Boxster owner from Missouri was there, and he unexpectedly had a dreaded “Check engine light” come on his car (a 2000 Boxster). He was concerned like any of us would be, especially being a full days drive from home. He and I chatted, and he said he wanted to get the car checked out before heading home. Not being familiar with the area, I steered him to a person I knew who lived locally, another Boxster owner, friend and Boxster Register member. To keep this story reasonably short, I can report that the local person made the necessary arrangements for the Missouri owner to get his car into the Cincinnati Porsche dealer at 7:00 AM on Monday, there the Technician was able to resolve the issue within an hour and a half, and the Missouri owner was happily on his way home shortly thereafter. The amazing part is that due to the circumstances, his bill from the Porsche dealer for services rendered was $zero. Not a bad outcome I would say, and mostly all of this is due to the fact the local Boxster guy was willing to help out in a situation where his knowledge of the people and the facilities in the area really paid off. Bottom line, it’s a wonderful story when there’s a happy ending, and fellow Porsche owners can help each other. It’s probably not a rare story, it likely happens all the time but we don’t get to hear about it. I hope to have a reunion with both of these Boxster owners next year at P2O. Our next local event is the 40 th Chesapeake Challenge, which will be really close when this article is published mid September. I hope there is a very strong contingent of Boxster owners participating in this year’s event. I plan to be there, and hope to see you. I’ll have plenty of Boxster Register applications for anyone who is interested in signing up. The Chesapeake Region Boxster owners are encouraged to contact me, if you haven’t already, to become a member of our growing Boxster Register.
