PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE BY ANDREW TOTH
I
t's hard to believe August is in the rearview mirror
already. Although it passed quickly, we've
had five successful events in that time. We
started August with the monthly social, which was
once again held at the Olde Stein Inn in Edgewater.
Seventeen members showed up to enjoy tasty German
food and good company. Randy Richter and
Janet Jackson shared their recent experience at the
Porsche Museum in Germany and provided pictures, which we will share
with you soon. The September social will return to this popular location.
Later in the month we had our annual Crab Feast at Kemptown Park.
Nearly eighty people showed up for a summer afternoon of games, good
conversation, and a low-key car show with unusual classes. The weather
cooperated, and with all the food on hand, I can't imagine anyone went
away hungry. Thanks to Nancy and Don Malson for another outstanding
event.
The following weekend was a double-header with a Tech Session at Porsche
of Annapolis on Saturday and an Autocross on Sunday. The staff at
Porsche of Annapolis was impressed with a strong showing of seventy-five
members who attended to learn basic maintenance of their cars as explained
by tech Kent Phillips. Tech Chair and Executive VP, John Patterson,
was also on hand to answer questions from members. Our fourth
autocross of the season was held on a picture-perfect day at the Dorsey
MARC lot. Spectators were treated to drivers in a variety of cars in the
hunt for the coveted top spot in their class. Omar Lopez went home with
FTD in his 2004 GT3.
We finished up the month with another fun social at the Shallow Creek
Bookstore Cafe in Edgemere. Tourmeister Allen Gunzelman has organized
events at this locations several times this year, and each one is a crowdpleaser.
So as you see, it's been a busy month. But wait, there's more. The 40th
Annual Chesapeake Challenge is coming up on September 26th, and we
have more tours, autocross, tech, and social events planned. As always,
check the web site for the latest information.
I hope to see you at an event soon.
