Event Pack, 2013
Warhammer World, Nottingham
®

®
Hello and welcome to the pack for the Battle Brothers
being held at Warhammer World throughout 2013.
This pack covers all three of Games Workshop’s games;
Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Hobbit: An
Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle Game, so no
matter which Battle Brothers you are coming to, this is
the only pack you will need!
Battle Brothers events are all about having a great time
with your closest ally, meeting new people and having
fun. This pack will explain, in detail, how the events will
work. For those of you who just want to turn up and
play, here’s all you really need to know:
Arrive at the event with your gaming partner,
your painted army and gaming materials (dice,
tape measure etc.) then, prepare to have an
awesome time with your closest ally fighting in
great battles with like-minded people and seeing
some inspirational armies along the way.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that our games are written
to be played in the spirit of friendly competition, where
winning is less important than making sure everyone
has a great time. You can help maintain this friendly
spirit by ensuring that you and your opponent follow
Warhammer World’s Most Important Rule at all times.
The Event
So, as you are still reading then you must be curious as
to how the event will work? Here are the facts...
Battle Brothers is your chance to have fun with a friend,
partner or family member, playing games against other
such teams. The spirit of this event is entirely social and
the challenge of playing as a team of two ensures that
you will have a great time. By this definition, Battle
Brothers is a great opportunity to meet new friends and
gives you a fantastic reason to catch up with old allies
who you haven’t seen for a while.
Battle Brothers also offers you the opportunity to
showcase your army to other hobbyists, play against

some of the best painted and converted armies in
the world, share your ideas and get inspired for new
hobby projects.
Warhammer World’s Most
Important Rule:
In games the size and complexity of ours there are
bound to be occasions where a situation is not covered
by the rules or you can’t seem to find the right page.
Even if you know the rule, sometimes it is just a really
close call and players don’t agree on the precise
outcome. Nobody wants to waste valuable gaming
time on arguing, so be prepared to interpret a rule or
come up with a suitable solution for yourselves (in a
gentlemanly fashion of course).
It is important to remember that the rules are just a
framework for an enjoyable game and winning is less
important than making sure both players have a good
time.
Registering at Warhammer
World
When you arrive at the Battle Brothers, you’ll need to
register in with the Events Staff, who will give you an
events pack containing a record card, a rules pack
and randomly allocate a gaming table where your first
game will take place. To register, you will need:
• Your ticket.
• A team name (family friendly of course).
• Two copies of the army list you are using over the
event, both clearly marked with your Team Name.
At a two-day event, we will open an optional early
registration on the Friday night. If you arrive in
Nottingham early, and want to avoid the queues, then
simply pop along and register early with us!
Your Army
You must bring along a fully painted and based army,
picked with your partner to a specific points value
from a current and official list produced by Games
Workshop.
See the back of this pack for a full inventory of what
army lists are permitted at a Battle Brothers event. The
points value and composition of the army depends on
the game you are playing:
Warhammer: Each Player uses a 1000 point army,
each chosen from a single Warhammer Armies Book
and allied together following the rules found on page
136 of the Warhammer Rulebook.
NOTE: You will need to decide between you which
army General is the Grand General. The only reason
for this is that in the scenario Blood and Glory, only
the Grand General will count as the General for the
purposes of the Breaking Point.
Example 1: Nick and John are going to Battle Brothers
and Nick is taking a 1,000 point Orcs & Goblins army.
John is taking a 1,000 point Vampire Counts army.
These two armies fight alongside each other as detailed
in the Warhammer Rulebook. John selects his Vampire
Count to be the Grand General.
Warhammer 40,000: A 1,500 point army chosen
between two people using the rules from pages 108 –
113 of the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook.
Example 1: Adam and Rob are going to Battle Brothers
and between them they need to fill a single 1,500
point army. Adam spends 800 points on a primary
detachment of Black Templars and Rob spends 600
points on Blood Angels as an allied detachment
following the rules in the Warhammer 40,000
Rulebook. Between them they then spend 100 points
on fortifications, giving them their 1,500 point army.
Example 2: Gareth and Ray are also going to Battle
®
®
®
Brothers and between them they are taking 1,500
points of Orks as a single army. Gareth will use 900
points of the Orks and Ray will use 600 points, giving
them a single 1,500 point army from one Codex.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Strategy
Battle Game: A 1000 point army of either Good or
Evil, chosen between two people using the choosing an
army rules, found on pages 100-102 of The Hobbit:
An Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle Game Rules
Manual.
Example 1: Simon and Zak are going to Battle
Brothers. Simon is taking a 650 point Gondor Army
and Zak is taking a 350 point Dol Amroth Army,
making a combined army of 1,000 points.

Your Army List
An Army List is a record of your complete army,
covering all of the unit entries, their wargear and
their individual point costs. If you need help with
producing an Army List then contact your local
Games Workshop Hobby Centre.
The Army List is an important part of the event.
You need to hand in a copy during registration
to be checked by the event staff. You will also
need to have one to hand during your games for
reference.
Additionally, if the scores are tied for Battle
Brothers Champions, the presentation of your
Army List could be the factor that swings the
results in your favour. Great examples of Army
Lists we have had handed in previously are
parchments, message arrows with rolled up lists
on them, even fully illustrated books that tell the
tale of the army’s creation! The opportunities are
endless, so feel free to go all out – just as long
as they are legible!
Page 3
The Rules of Engagement
These guidelines have been created in order to ensure
everyone has a great hobby experience at all of our
events. The intention is that, whilst ensuring everyone
can take full advantage of their creative urges, there is
no confusion over what models represent and that the
event is relaxed and enjoyable for all.
Miniatures
• All of your models must be fully assembled, fully
painted, fully based based* and fully represent
what is on your army list (including all equipment).
• Every miniature and component must be produced
by Games Workshop (Citadel, Forge World or
Warhammer Forge).
• We know many people like to take the opportunity
to convert models for thematic and creative reasons.
We actively encourage this, but do ask that if you
are going to do so, please check with the events
team first. We may ask you to make allowances at
the event in order to ensure there is no confusion for
your opponents.
*“Fully based” means that the base of every model in
your army has had some texture added to the entire
base, replete with an appropriate paint job. The only
exception to this are the clear flying bases for Doom
Divers, jetbikes, land speeders and other similar
models.
Proxies
• A “proxy miniature” is a model that is standing in
for something else and has not been changed in any
way. Examples include using plastic Cadian Shock
Troops as Stormtroopers or plastic Tyranid Raveners
as Fiends of Slannesh.
• We do not allow any proxy miniatures at our
events. If Games Workshop produces a model
for a unit entry, we expect you to use the correct
model, for the sake of clarity to your opponent.
(For conversions, please see the point above in the
‘Miniatures’ section).
• If you wish to personalise your units and/or
convert/kit bash plastic or Citadel Finecast kits
to create your own unique models that fit your
vision of your army, please check with the events
team first. We may ask you to make allowances
at the event in order to ensure enjoyment of your
opponents. Simply gluing a scope to plastic Cadian
Shock Trooper won’t make him a Kasrkin, but
adding a gnarly chainsword and an appropriate
paint job to a Tactical Marine can easily make him
a heretic Chaos Marine Renegade.
Page 4
ConduCt
• We do ask that you try and resolve any rules
problems out yourselves using your rulebooks. If
you can’t, or you need help, feel free to call over a
member of staff.
• Remember the most important rule - everyone is
here to have fun!
Please feel free to contact us with any queries (details
at the end of this pack).
Your teaM naMe
When you register at Battle Brothers, you’ll need to
give us a name for your team. Perhaps you might
go for a name relating to your armies, such as “The
Warriors of the Emperor” or something to intimidate
the other teams, like “The Crushers of Souls”. Perhaps
you might opt for the ever-popular comedy option
like “The Ninja Badgers” or “The Rubber Ducky
Generals”. Whatever you call yourselves, it needs to
be memorable and family friendly!
Checklist
Make sure you have all of the following:
• Your ticket
• Your painted miniatures; your army and any
extra miniatures you want to enter into the
Legends Painting Competition.
• Two copies of your army list, with your Team
Name clearly displayed on them.
• Your gaming materials – dice, templates, tape
measures etc.
• Your rulebook and extra Army Books, Codexes,
Sourcebooks or copies of White Dwarf you may
need.
• Accommodation in Nottingham sorted if you
need it.
• We recommend bringing some superglue for
on-the-spot repairs.
• Your Team-mate!
GaMes
• You will play five games over the course of a two
day event and three games over a one day event.
Each round will be against a randomly selected
opposing team and will last two and a half hours.
• The scenery will be set-up prior to the event. If the
scenario requires a special terrain feature, it will be
provided for you.
• Scenarios will be taken from the rulebook of the
game system that you are playing. They will be
randomly generated by the event staff prior to each
game. If there is a random number of objectives
they will roll for this too and everyone in the event
will play the same game.
Warhammer: using the Pitched Battles scenarios from
page 141 of the Warhammer Rulebook.
Warhammer 40,000: using the Eternal War missions
from page 118 of the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook
with the deployment maps from the same section.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle
Game: using the Points Match Scenarios from pages
104-109 of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Strategy Battle Game Rules Manual.
After each round you must fill in the results slip and
hand it to the events staff.
sCorinG
• The team who scored the most Victory Points over
the course of the event will be declared the Battle
Brothers Champions.
• In each game, your team will score a number of
Victory Points as described in the scenario being
played. Record these on your result slips prior to
handing them in to the event staff.
• You could also receive additional Victory Points for
receiving Favourite Game Votes (see below).
Favourite GaMe votes
At Warhammer World’s events, we value
sportsmanship and camaraderie above all other
attributes, and as such, after the last game of the event,
both yourself and your partner will get to recognise
your favourite opponents. Maybe they went out of
their way to make sure you had a great time? Maybe
they had a beautifully painted army or taught you a
new tactic? Whatever the reason, simply fill out the
appropriate voting slip on your record card and hand
it in to the Events Staff. Each player votes individually,
so you don’t have to vote for the same team as your
partner. Votes are worth additional Victory Points to
the teams that receive them, the amount depending on
the games system you are playing:
Each vote your team receives is worth an additional
500 Victory Points.
Each vote your team receives is worth an additional 3
Victory Points.
Each vote your team receives is worth an additional 3
Victory Points.

Events only
During Warhammer events, you could also
score additional Victory Points as such:
• If playing The Watchtower scenario, your
team earns an additional 500 Victory
Points for capturing the Watchtower in
the centre of the board at the end of the
game.
• If playing the Blood and Glory scenario,
your team earns and additional 500
Victory Points for reducing the opposing
army to Breaking Point. The game ends
when one team’s army hits breaking point
as normal.
awards
At the end of the Battle Brothers event, we will have
an Awards Ceremony, where we will recognise
the achievements made by some of the teams. At
Warhammer World, we like to recognise every aspect
of the hobby, so there is something for everyone, no
matter what you love about the Games Workshop
hobby. We will award:
• The Battle Brothers Champions: the team who score
the most amount of Victory Points over the weekend.
• The Acolytes of War: the team who score the secondhighest
amount of Victory Points.
• The Aspirants of Glory: the team who score the thirdhighest
amount of Victory Points.
• The Artisans of Renown: the team who receive the
most number of votes for Best Army, as voted for by
the players.
• The Scribe’s Quills: the team who are deemed to
have the Best Army List.
• Bugman’s Rangers: the team who win the Pub Quiz.
(Two day event only)
• Legends Painting Competition Awards: For the
players who win the Legends Painting Competitions.
• The Emperor’s Laurels: For the team/teams who
recieved the highest number of Favourite Game
Votes.
• Warhammer World Knight of the Inner Circle: For
any team who manages to earn 100% of the
available Favourite Game Votes (6 for a single day
event or 10 for a two day event).
Awards and how to win them
the Battle Brothers ChaMPions
The trophy for the overall champions is awarded to the
team who scores the most Victory Points over the event
(including those Victory Points earned for gaming and
Favourite Game votes are all added together). If there
is a draw, we will then look at how many Victory Points
have been earned from Favourite Game votes as a
decider. If this is still a draw, we will decide the winner
by the presentation of their army list.
the sCriBes’ Quills
Every time we have an event here at Warhammer
World, we’re amazed by the quality of some of the
army lists we get handed to us – old dusty tomes,
electronic read-outs, scrolls, skulls, fully illustrated
books and the like! We even had a huge wooden
shield given to us once… To honour this creativity,
we created the Scribes’ Quills award for best army
list. Judged by the member of the Events Staff who
checks all of the army lists, this prize goes entirely on
presentation. So why not go mad and see what you
can create? The team who is judged by us to have the
most extravagant and well-presented army list will win
The Scribes’ Quills at the Award Ceremony!
the artisans oF renown
During the first games play, the Events Staff will circle
the hall a good number of times and take a very
close look at all of the armies in attendance. We will
then make a shortlist of armies we believe to be the
best in the hall, and nominate them for the Artisans of
Renown Award. The criteria we use when deciding our
nominations are:
• Quality of Painting — Is there a high technical quality
of painting across the army?
• Appearance as a whole — Does the army look great
as a whole on the table? Do the models complement
each other?
• Originality — Are there conversions, or a colour
scheme we haven’t seen before? Is your army
unique?
• Theme — Is your army obviously themed?
• Centrepiece — Is there a great centrepiece model for
the army?
• Army extras — have you got cool objective markers
and so on?
If you’ve been nominated for the Artisans of Renown
Award, you will be informed just before voting takes
place. Please note, we will ask you if you have painted
everything yourself. Please be honest here – if you
didn’t paint the force, let us know. If you didn’t paint
the army yourselves, we can’t put you forward for the
award, as it would be unfair on those that have. All the
nominated teams will then have the chance to display
their models during the lunch break (on the second day
for a two-day event) while all the players at the event
vote on them in secret, using the Best Army voting
slips on your record sheets. The team who receives the
most votes will win the Artisans of Renown prize at the
Award Ceremony.
Bugman’s Rangers
It’s tradition here at Warhammer World that, whenever
we hold a two day event, we have a pub quiz in the
evening and Battle Brothers is no exception.
This is done just for fun and has no effect on the rest of
the weekend whatsoever! Gather yourselves into teams
of no more than 6 (you do not have to stay in your
Battle Brothers teams for this), and answer a devilish
slew of questions about whichever game you are
playing that weekend, including picture rounds, rules
questions, brain teasers and more.
The team who scores the highest will all win the
Bugman’s Rangers prize at the Award Ceremony,as
well as a free round of drinks, courtesy of Josef
Bugman himself!
The Warhammer World
Knight of the Inner Circle
We here at Warhammer World consider sportsmanship
and displaying a great attitude to be far and away
more important than winning games, and as such, we
created a magnificent prize – The Knight of the Inner
Circle.
This awesome trophy is awarded to each member of
any team which manages to gain 100% of Favourite
Game votes (6 in a one day event, 10 in a two day
event). Such a display of great conduct is worthy of
note, and anyone who does so is inducted into the
Warhammer World Inner Circle of Knights.
The Legends Painting Competition is run alongside the
Battle Brothers event and gives you the chance to show
off your skills with single models rather than with whole
armies. Open to everyone at Battle Brothers, simply
enter a model in the relevant category when we are
holding the competition (times are different depending
on a one day or two day event – check the schedule at
the end of this pack).
Once all the entries are in, we will open voting for
everyone at the event to choose their favourite in each
category, using voting slips provided. The entrant who
receives the most number of votes will receive the
relevant prize at the Award Ceremony.
Please not, these models do not have to be from your
army for the event, so feel free to bring anything you
like, from any game system you like!
Beast of Legend – you may enter any monster at all
from you collection. It must be on a 40mm (Terminator/
Ogre/The Lord of the Rings Cavalry) sized base or
bigger.
Engine of Legend – you may enter any war machine or
tank from your collection.
Hero of Legend – you may enter any single miniature
from your collection, which is on a 25mm (Infantry
base) or smaller.
Monument of Legend – you may enter any piece of
scenery from your collection (dimensions 2’ x 1’ and
18” tall or smaller).
as soon as it is released. The only exception to this is if the book is released on the day of the event itself, in
which case, we will use the older version.
• If any White Dwarf update is superseded by the release of an Army Book, Codex, Sourcebook or
Compendium, the newest version is always in use.
