9ditor: Cris Henry Number 9, Volume XLIXIIII April 2012
I am starting this April letter on a beautiful late March afternoon. We can continue to
have this beautiful weather as this is what I consider perfect.
I want to begin by again thanking all of you for all the love and friendship we received
after my mother passed away. THANK YOU
Saturday, February 25th we were at Lincoln #147 for their State Charity fund raiser.
Chili dogs, French fries, onion rings and a yummy chocolate shake. There was a hula hoop
contest, bubble blowing contest and the best 50's outfit. Kelly's son Scott and friend Mary
joined us and also grandson Levi. We really had a good time. Sunday, February 26th the
new Heartland Auxiliary #4539 was instituted in Grand Island. Thank you to Patty Welch for
being the Instituting Officer, Auxiliary Ritual Team from #154 for the beautiful initiation, Cheri
Bollig and all the ladies from Grand Island who made this all possible.
On Wednesday, February 29th I had cataract surgery on my right eye. I now see a
whole new world of colors and lots and lots of other things that I have missed because of the
cataract. No glasses until after April 5th. It seems a little strange without them.
Friday, April 2nd thru Sunday April 3rd we were in Columbus for State Shuffleboard.
What a good time was had by all. Kelly's Got Bugs got 20th place. Again they raised a lot of
money for MMI with 50/50's, silent auctions and numerous other things.
On Wednesday, April 7th Barb, Patty and I headed West. We stopped in North Platte
and visited with my daughter Jamie, then headed to Scottsbluff. We had a nice dinner with
the Auxiliary. Thank you Shirley for the picture of the F.O.E. sponsored NASCAR winner and
the lady bug mints. They were yummy. I was presented with a check for MMI and a really
neat lady bug solar light. State Grandmother JoAnn Hauck was also able to join us.
Thursday morning we stopped at the Gering Bakery. We just couldn't leave town without
some bakery items. We were then headed to Kimball. We dined on wonderful burgers and
homemade pies that evening and had great conversation about Kimball. We all agreed we
wanted to come back for burgers, homemade pie and more conversation. Friday we were
off to Crawford. It was a beautiful drive from Kimball to Crawford. We met so many nice
people in Crawford. The meal was wonderful and in our conversations we found we could
help them possibly sign some new members from their Volunteer Fire and Rescue
Department. While in Crawford we found we were locked in our room. The dead bolt
jammed and with the help of mine and Barbs nail files we got the door open. Saturday
morning we were invited to Nadean Rhoades's cousin Ann's for brunch in Chadron. We
were wined and dined in a beautiful restored building that Ann owns. If anyone wants to
have a beautiful place to visit, Chadron State Park is one to see. Our next stop that day was
Alliance for their Volunteer Night. Great steak dinners, auctions, scat games and money for
MMI. A perfect evening.
Then I had to go back to work after such a fun week. On Saturday, March 17th Barb
picked me up and we went to O'Neill to ride in the St Patrick's Day Parade. It was the perfect
weather for a parade. I was asked if I wanted to ride the green horse and I declined that
opportunity. O'Neill does such a great job in their community with all their volunteer help.
They presented us with more money for MMI. Thank you O'Neill.
The month of March winds up with Eastern Zone hosted by Omaha #38 on March
24th thru the 25th and then on the 30th thru April 1st State Pool in Hastings.
The year has flown by all too fast and State Convention in Kearney is just around the
corner. You should have received your invitations to the 60th Anniversary of the State
Auxiliary on April 28th. Grand Madam Gwen will be visiting Nebraska that weekend. I am
looking forward to seeing a lot of you there.
Until next month "YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
WCR JIMMY DURANTE CHILDREN'S FUND and CHILD ABUSE FUND
WCR Auxiliary President, Marilyn Mintun, has graciously appointed me as the WCR Chairperson for
this charity. To all my brothers and sisters in Iowa and Nebraska, I am confident that all of you have had an
event to help our sick and disadvantaged children. If not, there is still time to hold a fundraiser.
Here are some frightening Child Abuse facts: Victims of child abuse and neglect is highest among children
from birth to 3 years old. The incidence of abuse and neglect among disabled children is twice as high.
Children can suffer permanent psychological and physical damage or even death at the hands of their
abusers.
Please remember our smallest victims. The little ones that have no voice need our help the most!
Thank you in advance for everything you have done and all that you will continue to do for this worthwhile
charity.
Feel free to contact me and let me know how successful your event was in the past year. I'd love to
hear from you!
To all of our Eagle Friends,
On behalf of Mother (Fran Rushlau) and myself, I would like
to thank all of you for your prayers, kindnesses, and condolences
on the recent illness and passing of my youngest
brother Jeffrey. It has been a very sad time for the Rushlau
clan, but we are trying to move forward and remember all
that was good about this remarkable young man. It is with
the help of our Eagle friends that we are able to find peace,
and come to the realization of how much our friends and
family really mean to us. God bless each of you.
Meet Braden. In third grade, his teacher, who also
happens to be his mom, noticed he struggled with
spelling and writing. While his math and reading skills
were fine, he sometimes wrote letters backwards and
out of order. He also lacked focus in the home-based
classroom. His mother was recommended to MMI. The
academic professionals at MMI conducted in-depth
assessments to determine Braden's strengths and weak
areas. The evaluation and analysis revealed Braden
was at the low end for spelling and writing skills for his
age. Therapists initiated exercise geared to improve his
skills and increase his writing confidence. Since then,
Braden's focus also has improved. MMI is still in the
picture, offering tips and tools to help him improve his
existing skills and master new ones. Once a plan
shows success, children are continually monitored for
progress. Continued support also is provided to parents
and teachers through strategies to implement at home
or in school.
For more information on MMI and the programs they
March 20, 2012 A SPECIAL THANKS
I would like to send a special thanks to Sandy Biery for the beautiful
at the funeral service. I would also like to thank Kelly Davis and
MINK Eagle Sisters:
An Urgent Request-
There are 6 teams signed up so far and a partial shotgun team with 2 members needed. Just know YOU can do this! Chalk it up to
another Eagle learning experience!?!
Right now I'm finding I'm extremely short of judges, as well as those Sisters needed to sit in for Inside Guards and Secretaries.
Just as important is the need for Outside Guards, timers, prompters, inspectors, tally team members, and judges of words, impressions,
and motions. From the 5 MINK States, the number of volunteers are: Missouri 9, Iowa 4, Nebraska 0, Kansas 0, and the
Dakotas 0. Would appreciate ALL five of the States being represented.
State Presidents and/or State Ritual Chairmen, please, urge your Sisters to volunteer for what they are interested in doing. Again
all competition will be held on Friday, April 13th, in the afternoon and evening.
You have my sincere thanks now, and will receive even more thanks and gratitude from the Ritual Team members and me at the
Conference!
Traveling with SMP Bobbie, is always fun and entertaining. While in Crawford at the motel, after a night of wining and dining at the
Crawford Eagle Club, Bobbie and Barbara Jean entertained their State Mother.
I sat on the bed after we had been securely LOCKED in our room. YES, I mean LOCKED BY THE DEADBOLT that would NOT
unlock. First it was funny and then of course we think about if there is a fire. Mother Patty is checking how high the window is that
we are going to have to get out. We are on the ground level so it wouldn't have been bad landing.
Well, Barb works on it, and then Bobbie gets her nail file out and uses the little file to unscrew the deadbolt screw that was about 4
inches in length. Now, I think this is really funny and after about 25 minutes, I let them know they are true mechanically inclined
girls. The lock is out of the door, the screws are laying on the night stand with a big 3 inch hole where the deadbolt came out of the
door.
So, if you ever need deadbolts removed from your motel door, please call SMP Bobbie, and her assistant Barb.
They are the mechanics, or they were on this trip!!!!!
My Dear Sisters,
My how quickly life can change. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your condolences
to me on the loss of my dear husband, Marv. I have felt your love and it has helped tremendously.
Now to the Membership reports:
The membership report includes every name you send in as voted on. The proposed report gives
me the number of new and re-enrolled members for the month. For number purposes at State we will follow
the Grand Aerie Report on MMS for total names submitted
We strongly encourage all Auxiliaries to try and get the new members initiated in a timely manner so
they can start participating in all the Fraternal Order of Eagles have to offer.
Sisters as you can see by the numbers we still have a ways to go to reach our goal so now is the
time to really get to work. We need each and every woman you sign up for membership. We are losing
sisters much too fast and if this wonderful organization is to accomplish all that it wants and should
accomplish we need the woman power. Our strength is in numbers and so let's add a lot more numbers
to each and every Auxiliary.
I love you all and thank you again for being the wonderful Sisters you are.
