January and February 2011
Thanks all for all the help the past year. We have made great strides and progress. The district meeting went well, despite
a few glitches, and a lot was learned. Christmas dinner went well with the best attendance we have had in years.
Also we made a profit for the first time in over 20 years. Everyone seemed to enjoy the party. See you all next year.
January 3rd is the next meeting. Best wishes to all. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Message from the Auxiliary President
Happy New Year! I hope that all Sisters had a healthy and happy holiday season. We should be able to slow down a bit
after such a busy November and December. Please know that I cannot say “thank you” enough to those Sisters who
have been helping me this year! May the 2011 year be a blessing to all.
Your Fraternal Sister, Jacqui Garland
Auxiliary Member News
Good results: The Wurstfest Auxiliary Booth was outstanding this year. Barbara Alves sends a special “thank you” to
all ladies that worked in the booth and especially to those Sisters who worked all year long making items to sell during
Wurstfest. We grossed approximately $15,545 and cleared about $8,500 after expenses.
Well I’ll be darn: Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going!
Wing Ding: The District III meeting held, Nov. 19,20,21 was also the official visits of State Madam President Elaine
Dickens and State Worthy President Melvin Bolding. We hosted Aeries and Auxiliaries from Highland Lakes, San Antonio,
Port Lavaca, Corpus Christi, Edna, and Canyon Lake. Nelrose and Oran Koepp’s team cooked hamburgers for
lunch prior to the workshops on Saturday. Joan Helmke entertained guests by performing a rendition of “old” songs
prior to dinner. Gifts were presented to our guests and about 35 people walked to Pat’s Place for a delicious unplanned
dinner. Overheard conversations went like this, “first time we ate what we wanted at a meeting or conference” so everyone
was indeed pleased. There was a little mix up in the schedule with our caterer, but we did survived. There were
about 40 people registered for the meeting. Our next District III meeting will be in Highland Lakes on Feb. 4,5,and 6.
Jolly Good Time: If you were not able to attend the Joint Christmas Party on December 12 th , you missed an evening of
good food, great fellowship and lots of fun for children and for the 100 or so guests. Santa Claus handed out gifts to the
children. The Auxiliary and Aerie raffles kept everyone entertained and watching their tickets like hawks. The Auxiliary
raised $396 for M.D. Anderson Cancer Research. The Silver Sounds Band played all sorts of the most wonderful
dance music. Thanks to the ladies who donated raffle items and also to the ladies who decorated the Christmas tree and
the hall.
Equal is as equal does: The road we were on led us to a covered bridge just as another car approached from the opposite
direction. At an impasse, the other driver - clearly feeling wronged - shouted, “I never back up for idiots!” My
friend put her car in reverse and replied, “I do!”
Candles and songs: Our birthday party at Kirkwood Manor on Dec. 13 th celebrated 16 December birthdays. Not all
birthday “babies” were able to attend but “Petals to Go Florist” donated corsages to 8 ladies and 8 gentlemen. Residents
not able to come to the party room accepted their corsages, cake and punch in their own rooms. Birthday cakes were
donated by Auxiliary members, Faye Gallion, Carolyn Matykiewicz, Adeline Row, Barbara Alves, and Jacqui Garland.
Joan Helmke, Carolyn, Adeline, Barbara and Jacqui serenaded the guests with songs, old and new!
Chaplains Corner: We are sad to report that we draped the charter for two members. Doris Young joined our sisterhood
November 19, 1957. She passed away on November 1, 2010, (43 yr member). Melva Klabunde joined our sisterhood
February 24, 1963. She passed away November 5, 2010. (47 yr member).

January and February 2011
Where was Santa Clause? Even though he was a “no show”, we still had plenty of gifts, food and door
prizes. Forty one ladies attended the Auxiliary Christmas party on December 20 th . Our Auxiliary Officers
prepared the lunch and pretty well kept everyone happy. The hors d’oeuvres served before lunch was wonderful
especially with the good tasting punch. The presentation of member ship pins was exciting. Three members
received their 10 yr pins and they are, Caprice Schaefer, Yaeko Coburn and Joan Mez. Patsy Shirley was
awarded her 20year pin. Rona Burris received her 30 yr pin. Faye Gallion and Mary Owens received 40-year
pins. There were no losers when we played Bingo! Carpice Schaefer, Margaret Mendelssohn, Marsha Kiesling,
Melva Maddox and Dorothy Schneider won door prizes.
You can’t have everything: Time may be a great healer - but it’s a lousy beautician!
Recall: In memory of our deceased sisters the Auxiliary donated $100 to Hospice Tree of Lights.
Sick and Visiting: Patsy Shirley has retired from this committee. Mary Lowrie is now the Chairman. Mary’s
phone number is 627-9245
Past Presidents Dinner: January 10 th will be the date of the next Past Presidents Dinner. It will be held at
Granzin’s. For more information call Nelrose Koepp. Adeline Row will host the February14 th 2011 Past
Presidents Dinner.
Welcome: We are proud to have Lou Ludwig as our latest initiated Auxiliary member. Jean Swank transferred
from Canyon Lake to our Auxiliary and we are proud of her too!!
Dues are due: Secretary Barbara Alves reminds all Sisters that dues are to be paid by December 31 st , 2010.
Members will become delinquent on January 1, 2011. Mailing address: Eagles Auxiliary, P.O. Box 311523,
New Braunfels, TX 78131-1523.
Smile: Give me a sense of humor Lord - Give me the grace to see a joke, to get some happiness from life and
pass it on to other folks.
