entitled FADE OUT! is an improvisation on the notion of an end or, more
precisely, a fading out of humanity, as formulated on the one hand by
Valerie Solanas (yes, she’s the one who shot Andy Warhol) in her 1967
SCUM Manifesto and on the other by the philosopher Helene Druskowitz
(yes, she was briefly a friend of Nietzsche and then came to hate him) in
her Pessimistische Kardinalsätze (1905), in which she demands the ultimate
end of humanity. Sound sources are used which generate their own
fade-out: a wind-up fish, a tuning fork, and espresso machine, the readers’
breathing, their urine stream etc. With his ideas and manifestos on
auto-destructive/auto-constructive art and destruction Gustav Metzger
provides the connecting element. FADE OUT! is the result of an artisticmusical
examination of Helene Druskowitz, Gustav Metzger and Valerie
Solanas and the notions of the end – FADE OUT!
