The festival which would have been
banned during the Soviet occupation
started in 1993 with the help
of Finnish church musicians. It
aims to bring good music even to
the smallest country churches in
Estonia, focusing on high-quality
works of primarily sacred, but also
of secular repertoire. Hand in hand
with Estonian musicians the festival
has hosted guest performers
from Great Britain, Russia, Scandinavia,
Lithuania, Hungary, Czech
Republic, Japan and other countries.
Since 2010 the artistic director
is the renowned opera singer
Pille Lill.
SCHILLING – FESTIVAL
OF BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
Schilling has, at least in the context
of indie-music festivals, a long tradition.
It spreads the good vibes for
the sixth time, with the help of the
best Estonian and foreign bands. All
well chosen to fit the very special
mood of the festival. Once again,
the visitor is likely to see a kaleidoscopically
vivid crowd and effectively
decorated festival grounds. It
all happens on a warm summer day
in Kilingi-Nõmme, a tiny town in
southwest Estonia.
