The People’s Palace explores<br />
the development of the city and<br />
people of <strong>Glasgow</strong> from 1750<br />
to the present. Children will<br />
discover how <strong>Glasgow</strong> became<br />
the industrial ‘workshop of the<br />
world’, see how a whole family<br />
lived in a ‘single-end’, and follow<br />
the good times at the dancing or<br />
‘do<strong>on</strong> the water’. The adjoining<br />
Winter Gardens houses tropical<br />
plants and outside is the historic<br />
<strong>Glasgow</strong> Green.<br />

This actress-led sessi<strong>on</strong> has lots of hands-<strong>on</strong><br />
activities. Children will find out how gran’s<br />
or even great-gran’s family did their washing<br />
and cleaning – how did they manage without<br />

This sessi<strong>on</strong> looks at how life in <strong>Glasgow</strong> has<br />
altered from the early 1900s to the present<br />
day. By exploring the People’s Palace<br />
collecti<strong>on</strong>s, handling a variety of objects and<br />
taking part in fun activities, learners will find<br />
out about changes in society, employment<br />
and the city as a whole.<br />

Bring all your hip wee guys and gals back<br />
to the colourful 1960s. Using hands-<strong>on</strong><br />
activities, pupils will find out how people<br />
used to work, rest and play, and how people<br />
coped as housing began to change.<br />

WORLD WAR II: THE HOME FRONT<br />

Why did people have to ‘make do and<br />
mend’? And what was it like to go to school<br />
with your gas mask? Children will handle<br />
objects from World War II and discover the<br />
challenges people in Britain faced at that<br />
time – from rati<strong>on</strong>ing to air raids.<br />

also have the opportunity to recreate the<br />
sounds of the rain<strong>for</strong>est using musical<br />
