Riverside Museum is the exciting<br />

new venue <strong>for</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong> Museums’<br />

transport and technology<br />

collecti<strong>on</strong>s, located where the<br />

River Kelvin meets the Clyde. The<br />

Tall Ship is moored outside and<br />

inside exhibits include recreati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

of <strong>Glasgow</strong> streets from past<br />

times, with shops that children<br />

can go into and explore. The<br />

museum celebrates the people<br />

who shaped <strong>Glasgow</strong>’s role in<br />

shipbuilding, train manufacturing<br />

and engineering.<br />

Clyde shipbuilding through this interactive<br />

and hands-<strong>on</strong> workshop. Children will<br />

engage in group and partner work, object<br />

curriculum strands in Social Studies and<br />

Using Riverside’s steam-powered vehicles<br />

we will explore the various ways steam has<br />

been used to power transport. Learners will<br />

help make a working turbine and participate<br />

in group work, research and experiments.<br />

This workshop addresses CFE outcomes in<br />

Social Studies and Science and Technology.<br />

Rolls-Royce<br />

In this hands-<strong>on</strong> interactive workshop, pupils<br />

will learn about the Rolls-Royce working<br />

envir<strong>on</strong>ment and how technology is changing<br />

the face of modern engineering. They will<br />

engage in group exercises, including <strong>on</strong>es<br />

using real aircraft engine comp<strong>on</strong>ents.<br />

Victorian Trade<br />

With the <strong>Glasgow</strong> 2014 Comm<strong>on</strong>wealth<br />

games fast approaching, we ask: what<br />

impact has the Comm<strong>on</strong>wealth had <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>Glasgow</strong>? Learners will explore this questi<strong>on</strong><br />

through hands-<strong>on</strong> activities and challenges,<br />

looking at Victorian <strong>Glasgow</strong>’s industry, trade<br />

and transport. Building <strong>on</strong> the theme of<br />

citizenship, pupils will also reflect up<strong>on</strong> the<br />

idea of comm<strong>on</strong>wealth today. S0C 2-01a<br />

World War II<br />

In this workshop pupils will take <strong>on</strong> the<br />

role of war corresp<strong>on</strong>dents to research and<br />

communicate about the experiences of war.<br />

Through hands-<strong>on</strong> activities, learners will<br />

uncover stories of RAF pilots, war artists,<br />

German submariners and war survivors.<br />
