Sunday, June 28 th :<br />

• The day will start with the Fellows Café where you are invited to join the<br />

discussions <strong>of</strong> your interests in the café that are chaired by an <strong>AIB</strong> Fellow. When<br />

arriving in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> you will get a list <strong>of</strong> topics for discussion and the <strong>AIB</strong><br />

Fellows facilitating the discussions.<br />

• The conference theme plenary from 8:15-9:45 will feature Gary Hamel<br />

(London Business School and Mlab) and Randall Morck (University <strong>of</strong> Alberta).<br />

Both renowned as highly influential scholars in management and corporate<br />

governance, respectively. The focus <strong>of</strong> the panel is where the world is heading<br />

and the implications for our research.<br />

• The day will include four “State-<strong>of</strong>-the-art Research” panels. The first starting at<br />

10:00 and then there will be a “State-<strong>of</strong>-the-art Research” panel in each <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following time slots.<br />

• Pedagogy, competitive and interactive paper sessions all starts at 10:00 and<br />

among the many attractive sessions is the W<strong>AIB</strong> Panel on The critical role Played<br />

by Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Networks in the Creation <strong>of</strong> Meaningful Research Career—<br />

followed by the W<strong>AIB</strong> reception.<br />

• Following the close <strong>of</strong> the regular academic sessions at 17:00-18:30 we will<br />

hold a series <strong>of</strong> receptions. Each <strong>of</strong> the main functional areas that make up the<br />

interdisciplinary field <strong>of</strong> International Business will host a networking reception.<br />

So, please participate by choosing the reception or receptions closest to<br />

your own interests. Light food and drinks will be available at the networking<br />

receptions.<br />

Monday, June 29 th :<br />

• The Fellow Café will kick-<strong>of</strong>f the day with stimulating discussions from 7:30 to 8:00<br />

• The JIBS 40 th Anniversary Plenary from 8:15-9:45 will provide a quick tour on the impact and progress <strong>of</strong> JIBS in the first four<br />

decades and how it has developed into a top-tier journal. The tour-guides will be some <strong>of</strong> the previous JIBS Decade award<br />

winners including John D. Daniels (JIBS 1970 Decade Award Winner), Jan Johanson & Jan-Erik Vahlne (1997 Award Winners),<br />

Paul Beamish (1987 Award) and Julian Birkinshaw (1999 Award). The JIBS Decade Awards for 1970-1985 will also be presented<br />

in this plenary.<br />

• Panels, pedagogy, competitive and interactive paper sessions start at 10:00 with many interesting sessions during the day<br />

including two “State-<strong>of</strong>-the-art Research” panels on Emerging Markets (a session co-sponsored by <strong>AIB</strong> and the IM Division <strong>of</strong><br />

AoM) and Outsourcing, Offshoring, and Supply Chain Management, respectively.<br />

• Following lunch we have a special session that will bring together the finalists for the <strong>2009</strong> Richard N. Farmer Dissertation<br />

Award Presentations from 14:00 to 15:15.<br />

• Another highlight on Monday afternoon will be the UNCTAD World Investment Report Panel that focuses on how the financial<br />

and economic crisis are affecting global FDI flows.<br />

• The session on Meet the Editors <strong>of</strong> IB-journals from 15:45 to 17:00 provide the opportunity to get insights on all the major<br />

journals in the IB-field.<br />

• One <strong>of</strong> the most anticipated and exciting events <strong>of</strong> the<br />

conference is the gala dinner. This year’s Gala Reception at<br />

Balboa Park will be held from 18:00 to 21:00. This is a venue<br />

that I’m sure you will appreciate. Business casual attire is<br />

recommended, and you are advised to bring your conference<br />

badge with you. Bus transportation will be provided from the<br />

conference hotel.<br />

Tuesday, June 30 th :<br />

• Again, the Fellows Café will start early with the strong<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> intellectual discussions and c<strong>of</strong>fee.<br />

• An absolute highlight <strong>of</strong> the conference will be the plenary<br />

panel from 8:15 – 9:45 entitled: Seasons <strong>of</strong> a Scholar: A Tribute<br />
