3.2.2. <strong>AAPG</strong>’s 3 rd Annual SCLS and 29 th Annual Leadership Conference
As a result <strong>of</strong> last year’s activity, ano<strong>the</strong>r
president, Andrei Panaiotu, represented <strong>the</strong>
<strong>Bucharest</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong> SC, for <strong>the</strong> second year in a
row, at <strong>the</strong> 3 rd
Annual <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>
Leadership Symposium and <strong>the</strong> 29 th
Annual
Leadership Conference <strong>of</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong>, both taking
place in Tulsa, in August 2009. He was invited
to tell <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r chapter leaders how BSC has
won <strong>the</strong> Outstanding International <strong>Chapter</strong> <strong>of</strong>
<strong>AAPG</strong> in 2009. The reason stands exactly in
<strong>the</strong> collaboration that we have with SEG and
EAGE chapters.

“I get to meet a lot <strong>of</strong> interesting people, all <strong>geo</strong>scientists, ei<strong>the</strong>r in <strong>the</strong> Industry or in
Universities, which also have an important function in <strong>AAPG</strong>, such as: former presidents Will
Green, Scot Tinker, <strong>the</strong> actual president John Lorenz, also Rick Fritz, David Cook and David
Rensink. However, <strong>the</strong> place where I felt <strong>the</strong> best was at SCLS with its committee and with <strong>the</strong>
o<strong>the</strong>r students. I would like to acknowledge Mike Mlyneck, Brian McBroom and from <strong>the</strong>
students, Ben Kihlams from Aberdeen, for being very close even now” said Andrei.
This year’s SCLS got toge<strong>the</strong>r 15 students and young pr<strong>of</strong>essionals; 8 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m were
from <strong>the</strong> US, representing 4 Sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong> (Pacific, Southwest, Eastern and Mid-continent)
and <strong>the</strong> rest counted 7 foreign countries, representing 5 Regions <strong>of</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong> (Europe, Asia -
Pacific, Middle East, Canada, and Latin America). (fig.3)
