4.2. The10 th Anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bucharest</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> “1999-
2009”
On 17 th December 2009 <strong>the</strong>
<strong>Bucharest</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> celebrated a
decade <strong>of</strong> successful activity. 10 years
previously <strong>the</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> <strong>of</strong>
<strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bucharest</strong> had its first
meeting as an <strong>AAPG</strong> chapter. Throughout
<strong>the</strong>se ten years <strong>the</strong> BSC has conducted a
wide range <strong>of</strong> activities that have focused on
students’ interests and needs, driven by <strong>the</strong>
ambition <strong>of</strong> fostering self-confidence and
innovative thinking in <strong>the</strong> young minds <strong>of</strong>
<strong>geo</strong>logy students.
Everything was set; <strong>the</strong> BSC Office
in <strong>the</strong> Faculty building was nicely decorated
and arranged for this special occasion, a
varied traditional buffet was prepared by
students, <strong>the</strong> 10 years cake and <strong>the</strong>
champagne where <strong>the</strong>re too. After <strong>the</strong>
guests arrived, <strong>the</strong> short program we had
prepared was introduced by BSC President
Andrei Panaiotu. He invited Faculty
Advisor Pr<strong>of</strong>. Dr. Nicolae Anastasiu to
properly present <strong>the</strong> reason for celebration.
Pr<strong>of</strong> Anastasiu made a brief resume <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>
10 years that have past; he showed how
proud he was <strong>of</strong> BSC having been awarded
<strong>the</strong> <strong>AAPG</strong> International Outstanding
<strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> in 2009.
Next, was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong>
BSC in <strong>the</strong> first year <strong>of</strong> activity, who now
teaches Sedimentology at our Faculty, Dr.
Relu Roban. Relu is <strong>the</strong> best example <strong>of</strong>

<strong>the</strong> benefits one has in being involved. Even
if he’s teaching now, he never stopped
being a BSC member. He shared with <strong>the</strong>
audience a story that was at <strong>the</strong> same time
touching and funny about how hard and
different it was in <strong>the</strong> first part <strong>of</strong> BSC
history. Even so, BSC was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best
chapters in Europe at <strong>the</strong> time.
After that, former President Ioana
Stan had a presentation about <strong>the</strong> activities
and <strong>the</strong> achievements BSC has had in <strong>the</strong>
late years, all were ga<strong>the</strong>red in one story
told to show everyone that students can
really go beyond <strong>the</strong> boundaries <strong>of</strong>
conventional <strong>edu</strong>cation and successfully do
more.
The program ended with <strong>the</strong>
traditional carols choir BSC puts up every
year. 16 students took <strong>the</strong> time to rehearse
three times a week for a month, just for <strong>the</strong>
15 minutes <strong>the</strong>y would have for singing
carols at <strong>the</strong> Christmas celebration. In <strong>the</strong>
end, it was all worth it; <strong>the</strong> audience was
enchanted.
