Atane Formation<br />
Boundaries. An erosional unconformity separates the<br />
s<strong>and</strong>stones <strong>of</strong> the Paatuutkløften Member from the underlying<br />
incised valley deposits <strong>of</strong> the Nuuk Qiterleq or<br />
Tupaasat Members (Figs 97, 99, 105). In some cases,<br />
the Paatuutkløften Member is incised directly into the<br />
Kangilia or Atane Formations suggesting either that the<br />
previous deposits within the valley system were completely<br />
eroded away or that new valleys were eroded<br />
locally (Figs 14, 99, 109, 110). The s<strong>and</strong>stones <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Paatuutkløften Member are abruptly overlain by mudstones<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Eqalulik Formation (Figs 108, 112).<br />
<strong>Geological</strong> age. The age <strong>of</strong> the Paatuutkløften Member is<br />
bracketed by the Danian age <strong>of</strong> the underlying Kangilia<br />
Formation <strong>and</strong> the latest Danian to Sel<strong>and</strong>ian age <strong>of</strong> the<br />
overlying Eqalulik Formation (see p. 137), suggesting<br />
that the age <strong>of</strong> Paatuutkløften Member is late NP3–NP4<br />
(Nøhr-Hansen et al. 2002).<br />
Correlation. The Paatuutkløften Member has been correlated<br />
with marine deposits <strong>of</strong> the Agatdal Formation<br />
on central Nuussuaq (Koch <strong>19</strong>59; Dam & Sønderholm<br />
<strong>19</strong>98), <strong>and</strong> with the Agatdal Formation in the GANE#1<br />
<strong>and</strong> GRO#3 wells (Nøhr-Hansen et al. 2002).<br />
