Zelenka’s deep sympathy at the death of his admired
employer is apparent from the comments which the composer
inserted into the catalogue of his works next to these
compositions, and even more directly in the personal, griefstricken
tone of the music itself—a sign of the profound
‘consecration’ of his œuvre.
