4.10 Oily and solid waste disposal<br />
The port of Hamburg offers a wide range of solutions for seagoing vessels, i<strong>nl</strong>and vessels<br />
and port ships when it comes to the disposal of oily waste, ship-generated wastewater,<br />
chemicals and solid waste. Ship-generated waste has to be delivered to port waste reception<br />
facilities. For more information please contact the respective disposal companies or the<br />
Behörde für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt (BSU) - Hamburg Ministry of Urban Development<br />
and Environment.<br />
18 tankers with a tank capacity of 4,250m3, of which one tanker carries easily flammable<br />
liquids, are available AROUND THE CLOCK for the waterside disposal of solid and liquid<br />
wastes.<br />
In addition, an array of landside disposal options for solid wastes is available.<br />

4.11 Basic Disposal Regulations<br />
Pursuant to Council Directive 2000/59/EC all ships calling at the port of Hamburg will be<br />
charged a fee for the disposal of oily waste (MARPOL, Annex I) and garbage (household<br />
waste, MARPOL, Annex V). The fee will be charged irrespective of whether the reception<br />
facilities are actually used or not.<br />
As to waste disposal ships that have paid the fee will be reimbursed a certain amount.<br />

The port of Hamburg processes around 2,800 disposals of 50,000m³ of oily wastes and<br />
3,000 disposals of 8,000m³ of household-similar wastes generated by ships, which is<br />
possible o<strong>nl</strong>y due to the outstanding waste disposal infrastructure at the port of Hamburg.<br />
If you have any inquiries about waste disposal, please contact the Behörde für<br />
Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt, department of waste management where the officers in<br />
charge of the disposal of ship-generated waste will be able to help you fast and reliably.<br />
