96 Section 2: CDF 2.5 Synopsis We are working on three major hardware upgrade projects: COT: The COT replaces the CTC which would be inadequate for the higher luminosities of Run II. We are building much of the actual chamber and are responsible for testing and calibrating it. We will soon begin working on the new online and oine software required for this new device. SVX: The new SVX will be much longer and will provide 3D tracking. We have designed and fully debugged the readout controller (SRC) and are now writing and debugging much of the software required for data acquisition. CMX: The CMX coverage was incomplete in the last run. To complete it, we are installing chambers where the Main Ring used to pass over the detector, and in the lower 90 in azimuth beneath the nominal oor. We are involved in rewriting the oine code and will become involved in the online soon. Our recent successes in the analysis of Run I data include two very important measurements and apowerful search for Supersymmetry: top cross section: A new and much improved measurement of pp ! tt has been approved for publication by the collaboration. W mass: We have completed the nal measurement of the W mass in the electron channel, which will be published together with the muon channel this summer. 6E T + jets: Our control of the 6E T measurement has greatly increased the sensitivity of this channel to physics beyond the Standard Model. A result is expected soon. We are shifting much of our analysis eorts toward Run II. Some of current plans and activities include: di-boson production: The W +Jets and 6E T +Jets samples will contain contributions from WW and WZ production. They may also be windows to New Physics, including the Higgs boson. monojets: We will apply our expertise in 6E T measurement to a monojet search. A null result would constrain theories of electroweak-gravity unication via large extra dimensions.
Section 2: CDF 97 multijet trigger with b-tag: We are developing a trigger to allow alarge sample of b-tagged multijet events. These events could contain a signal for W=Z + h. 6E T trigger: We have stated the requirements for an eective 6E T +jets trigger which is sensitive, among other things, to supersymmetric particles and higgs. B s Mixing: There are currently only limits on the frequency of B s mixing. We are working with other groups to prepare the CDF analysis which will measure this frequency in Run II. CP Violation: We have devised analyses which will enable a measurement of the CP-violation parameter . This exploits the unique opportunity of a hadron collider to study the B s as opposed to the B d . This group is active in many areas yet is cohesive and shares all resources, meeting weekly to discuss issues in specic hardware or analysis projects as well as general issues coming from the CDF experiment.
