December 7 th , 2011
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Welcome to December! We hosted our “Songs of the Seasons” music
program December 1 st , 2011 presented by our very own K4-2 nd grade ICS
students to a full house. They performed seasonal & cultural songs. It was a
beautiful performance. Great job everyone!
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the school’s policy
regarding medications in school. We recently have had quite a few students
transporting medication to school.
According to the 2011-2012 Parent Student Handbook on page 31 it states:
Medications:
The School Nurse will supervise the medication administration program at the
school, including monitoring and training school designated staff in the
administration of medications. Whenever possible all medications should be
administered before or after the students attends school.
However, when necessary, prescription or non-prescription medications will only
be administered under the following procedure.
All prescription and all non-prescription medication require:
1. Licensed Health Care Prescriber signed statement listing the conditions and
circumstances for administering the medication, the prescribed dosage, frequency
of administration.
2. Student’s Parent/guardian/legal custodian signed consent.
3. Parents/guardians/legal custodians are responsible for delivering adequate
amounts of the correct medication in properly labeled containers to the school.
Children are not to bring medication to school.
4. All medications must be in an original package with the original label.
5. The School will require a separate Indian Community School 24 hour
mediation consent form for overnight field trips that is provided by the student’s
teacher.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us here at school.
Sincerely,
Amy Tromp
Principal

Winter is slowly sneaking up on us. Please help your child dress appropriately for this time of
season.
This is what the school follows regarding appropriate attire for outside for grades K4-6 th grade:
For morning recess, if the temperature is below 50 degrees, students should have a warm enough
jacket on or multiple layers, such as two sweatshirts to go outside for recess. If a student wears
shorts and the temperature is below 50 degrees, students will not be allowed to go outside for
recess either. If they are not properly dressed, they will remain in the cafeteria during recess.
For afternoon recess, if the temperature is below 50 degrees, students should have a warm enough
jacket on or multiple layers, such as two sweatshirts to go outside for recess. If a student wears
shorts and the temperature is below 50 degrees, students will not be allowed to go outside for
recess either.
For our students in 7 th & 8 th grade:
Parents of 7 th & 8 th grade students please assist your child/children in reminding them to bring
appropriate outdoor attire to school.
All students grades K4 -8 th grade should not be wearing jackets or what they consider their
outdoor wear in school unless traveling to or from outside.
Also, note that slippers and pajama pants are viewed as inappropriate school attire.

Indian Community School Room Parent Program
We are excited to begin our “Room Parent” Program here at ICS. This year we have
several parents who have agreed to be “Room Parents”. A “Room Parent” will be a
leader in the classroom and will be the liaison between the teachers and other parents in
the classroom. They will work with the teacher in finding out what the teacher’s needs
are and will help get other parents from their classroom involved as well. These parents
have had several hours of training and are ready to get busy. Their first assignment is to
contact those families from their assigned classroom and introduce themselves. They will
also be requesting families to give them their contact information so they may contact
families from their classrooms to relay important information or to ask for assistance on
activities/projects for the teacher. Please consider giving your information so that you
will be included in all that will be happening.
