G4.7, G4.10 and HR11 - Companies are unlikely to have systems to collect data about grievances received in the comprehensive
manner envisaged here. The distinction between ‘human rights related grievances’ and ‘non-human rights related grievances’ is
problematic as a concept and extremely difficult to apply in practice. Although some complainants articulate their concerns in the
language of human rights, the vast majority of complaints received relate to operational impacts.
Following the suggestion to combine these indicators, this would support a simpler general indicator such as : ‘Number of
grievances received through formal grievance mechanisms’.
