Diarrhoea: Simple Interventions<br />
Acute diarrhoea<br />
• Clear sweet or other clear fluids (not fruit juices or<br />
milk) for 24 hours<br />
• Then introduce other fluids and foods-avoid<br />
rough fibrous foods and fatty foods<br />
• Continue until usual food pattern is restored<br />
Chronic diarrhoea<br />
• Ensure a nourishing diet is taken<br />
• Seek advice: doctor, dietitian, visiting nurse<br />
Monitoring: until diarrhoea ceases<br />
Check outcomes: no further episodes?<br />
