to maintain the highest standards <strong>of</strong> practice among builders and craftsmen throughout the country;<br />
contribution to sustainable resource management, e.g. where restored buildings are used to house<br />
museum collections or for other activities;<br />
the cross-border nature <strong>of</strong> the activity, which can have positive spill-over implications for the heritage,<br />
education and tourism sectors at a national and international level;<br />
as noted earlier, provision <strong>of</strong> broader educational activities such as providing crafts courses in local<br />
areas where properties are located, the organisation <strong>of</strong> seminars and presentations, facilitating school<br />
tours and participation in major heritage events (e.g. <strong>Heritage</strong> Week);<br />
providing advice and the knowledge <strong>of</strong> experience to either private individuals or other organisations,<br />
which are seeking to find solutions that would promote the conservation and restoration <strong>of</strong> heritage<br />
buildings;<br />
providing a “demonstration effect” to stimulate other small developments in local areas, through its<br />
rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> landmark buildings.<br />
