6.5 Other Socio-Economic Benefits
A number of other socio-economic benefits are created or captured through the works supported by the
TFBGS. Significant heritage benefits accrue through the Scheme‟s focus on capturing and highlighting
how preceding generations farmed, lived, thought and built. Upgraded buildings often add substantially to
the distinctiveness of the countryside and to the sense of place enjoyed by residents and visitors.
Through alleviating the pressure to develop
new Greenfield buildings on farms they provide
environmental benefits and avoid unnecessary
environmental degradation and costs, while
many traditional farm buildings provide critical
habitats for wildlife, including bats and owls that
can be maintained following their conservation.
