Instrument maker and repairman, Janos Orendi has recently opened up<br />
his own new shop in Budapest, Hungary and is paying special attention<br />
to early brass instrument. He has recently made a bass trombone<br />
modeled after an instrument by Birchkholtz. He has also recently made<br />
natural trumpets and other early trombones and is currently working<br />

2007 23rd Annual HBS Early <strong>Brass</strong> Festival<br />
The 21st Annual HBS Early <strong>Brass</strong> Festival is a very recent memory and<br />
plans have been underway for an extended EBF and joint meeting with<br />
<br />
busy preparing the way for the 23rd Annual EBF. Tentative plans are<br />
that it will be held on the weekend of August 3-5, 2007 at Converse<br />
College, in Spartenburg, SC. A special tour of the Utley Collection<br />
will be among the many activities. Keep tuned!<br />
Great Shofar Blast-off<br />

New York City and gave it their all playing the four traditional shofar<br />
<br />
for the title of best shofar player in America. Kalman Feinberg of<br />
Teaneck, New Jersey, beat out 150 contestants who submitted videos<br />
<br />
country. The event was sponsored by the New York-based National<br />
Jewish Outreach Program and Paul Shaffer the music director of «The<br />
Late Show with David Letterman» was a special judge for the event<br />
sitting in with a panel of rabbis and other shofar mavens. Everyone<br />
<br />

Francisco Pérez Natural Trumpet Maker<br />
A professional trumpet player since 1993, Francisco Pérez has played<br />
in many orchestras including the Alicante Symphony Orchestra,<br />
Sinaloa State Orchestra (México), National Orchestra of Spain. He was<br />
invited twice to audion for the Principal trumpet position at Chicago<br />
Symphony (2003 & 2004). He had previously worked for Stomvi<br />
<br />
In his sabbatic year from the orchestra, Perez is transforming his hobby<br />
of making natural trumpets into into a new bussines. He has made about<br />
15 trumpets for my friends, and now plans to try the market.<br />
Living in Alicante, Spain (south Catalonia), Perez invites all to visit his<br />
little work place and see how a trumpet is made from brass or copper<br />
Andrew Parrott and the New York Collegium are continuing to bring<br />

Parrott conducted a program of the music of Giovanni Gabrieli show<br />
casing the ensemble in some of his most splendid large-scale works<br />
<br />
ecclesiis a 14, Audite principes a 16, Sanctus Benedictus a 12, and<br />
Dulcis Jesu a 20. As is his practice, Parrott assembled many of the<br />
<br />
William Dongois, Kiri Tollaksen, and Kris Ingles, cornetti and Greg<br />
Ingles, Erik Schmalz, Mack Ramsey, Lisa Albrecht, Liza Malmut,<br />
Brian Kay, Richard Cheetham, and Ernie Rideout, trombones. A<br />
fascinating pre-concert lecture was presented by Yale University<br />
professor, Robert Holzer.<br />
