Japanese Cultural Per<strong>for</strong>mances Friday 17 th September 11:00am - 4:30pm<br />

Displays <strong>and</strong> demonstrations of Japanese music including the Koto (Japanese harp), traditional<br />

Japanese dance, Sumo <strong>and</strong> other martial arts demonstrations.<br />

Manga Workshop Saturday 18 th September<br />

David Lovegrove, an accomplished manga artist will teach participants how to draw manga characters<br />

<strong>and</strong> scenes, providing examples of how to improve your own work. One of the most popular events in<br />

Japan Week 2010, this opportunity is not to be missed! Bookings are essential <strong>and</strong> places are limited.<br />

Japan Trivia Night Saturday 18 th September, from 6:30pm <strong>for</strong> a 7:00pm start<br />

test your knowledge of Japan. Get a team together or come along <strong>and</strong> make friends!<br />

“Japan Village” - Gold Coast Multicultural Festival<br />

Sunday 19 th September 10:00am – 4:00pm<br />

The Japanese Society of the Gold Coast will host a “Japan Village”, featuring Japanese dancing, the tea<br />

ceremony, Japanese instruments, martial arts <strong>and</strong> Japanese food.<br />

Sumo Live Broadcast Wednesday 22 nd September 5:00 – 7:00pm<br />

Hosted by the Australia Japan Society at The Plough Inn, South Bank, this is a rare chance to watch the<br />

broadcast of the Autumn Gr<strong>and</strong> Sumo Tournament live from Tokyo. It’s a great opportunity to make<br />

new friends <strong>and</strong> cheer on your favourite Sumo!<br />

Pathways to a Japan Related Career Seminar Friday 24 th September, from 6:00pm<br />

This is an opportunity to hear from professionals living in Brisbane <strong>and</strong> working in the Japanese sphere.<br />

Guest speakers from various areas will speak on their study <strong>and</strong> career choices. This seminar is ideal<br />

<strong>for</strong> university <strong>and</strong> high school students interested in or currently studying Japanese.<br />

“Zen to Kawaii: The Japanese Affect” Exhibition 13 th July - 19 th December<br />

Curated by Vanessa Van Ooyen, this exhibition explores elements of Japanese aesthetics in recent<br />

Australian art, architecture <strong>and</strong> design. It features new work by leading Australian artists such as<br />

Ghostpatrol, Pip & Pop, Peter Callas <strong>and</strong> Hitesh Natalwala, as well as key works held in the QUT Art<br />

Collection.<br />
