DICE Final Report
Other technical objectives, ‘D+ Setup & Configuration’ (B), ‘Target Review and Addition’ (D–E) -
and others referenced in the Bid document - caused us some difficulty and these are addressed in
our Technical Evaluation, After some experimentation we were happy to proceed with a suitable
range of targets (configuration). Regarding Software QA (H), modifications in COSE largely
leveraged existing java classes and infrastructure. The code is available on request but no there
has been no opportunity to QA the new features, or the minor modifications made to D plus.
In terms of ‘Dissemination’ (L) the project was advertised on a number of mailing lists, and
presentations made to regional VLE user groups (Nov. and Dec. ‘05). The outputs of the project
and the web site will be further advertised as the project is concluded. Progress plans and reports
(M) were made to ELF forums held in April (B’ham) and Nov. ’05 (London School of Economics),
in Feb. ‘06 (B’ham University) and otherwise (by email and telephone).
A further ELF forum focussing on Resource Discovery is being planned. In respect of ‘Liaison
and Feedback to d+’ we met with toolkit developers in Edinburgh at the beginning of July and at
the beginning of November ’05 and have been in communication with them by telephone and
email as appropriate. We are grateful for their help, comments and feedback on this report (draft,
Apr 06).
Finally, regarding ‘Planning and Specification’ (A). We would say that while it may not be unusual
that project plans need to be adjusted in unforeseen circumstances and this may not be a bad
thing, our revisions to aims and plans were quite substantial and as a result we failed in meeting
timelines. A revised list of work packages was submitted 5 .
